Tailgate

The tailgate on my 2016 Tahoe LTZ chimes 3 times and then begins to close automatically. I have to press the button on the hatch to stop it. Does anyone know how to disengage this automatic closing? Thanks for the help

It sounds like your getting a foot or something under the hands free sensor under the bumper. I have the same vehicle, and that is what the hands free close does. I don't believe there is an auto close.

I opened the tailgate with the button on the handle of the tailgate. It stayed open for more than 2 minutes. I then moved my foot under the bumper, and sure enough 3 chimes and it closed. So now 2 questions
1) if I have hands free close, do I have hands free open and how would I operate that? Because I have tried moving my foot under the bumper when the tailgate is closed and nothing happens.
2) can I disengage the auto close feature? And if so, how would that be done?

Yes you have hands free open. The key fob needs to be very close to the vehicle like standing at the bumper, then placing foot under the center in a in and out motion not side to side . Takes some practice sometimes to get it just right

Use your tiny foot…. Ok grab the handle and press the button but nooooo…. She got the fob and pressed the button…. And yess i watched her struggle because i was laughing so hard…
