Hi guys Good old tahoe still rolling. 335,000. When I had to put that piston in hole number 4 one thing I should have done is pulled the other hole next to it and weighed both of them and make an adjustment if necesarry. Turns out it is necessary. But I dont dare pull it apart with this many miles and it running this well. I know in the long run it may cause a problem. But not yet. It has a little stumble when you first start it at idle. But it goes away with just a little rpm. Runs like a bat out of poop still. Can you beleive no smoke at all no blow by at all uses no oil at all. Crazy. Hey question. On this vehicle with this many miles what oil weight would you reocomend. 5/30 is what chevy recomends when new. 10/40 in california? I always put a little marvel in the oil when I change it. Works awesome on the lifters. Thanx guys. STill original transmission.

What year is that Tahoe? The old machines run just about forever with good maintenance. The newer ones, not so much. My old S10 has run on 10w30 for 320k miles with the 2.8 V6, unusual for that engine. I also run a bit cooler thermostat.

May I ask why 10-40 in Cal? I'm still running 5-30 in my '02 Cal Tahoe. Just wondering.

What year?
My urges have favored Group4 fully synthetic 5w30 since the late 90s.
If your engine NEVER experiences temps under 41F, 10w30 IFF your engine does not work or play hard.
If your engine works or plays HARD, 10w40, and be gentle on the engine for the first 3-5min.
Also I really don't like the idea of 10w30 or 10w40 going past 4500 miles between oil changes.
