Do yourself a favor and take it to a shop, don't trust a bunch of goons on the internet to troubleshoot your suspension. If they get it wrong you die.

With that said, it appears the bolts that hold that to the frame may be loose.

This goon guesses ball joints? I assume you are wiggling the wheel. I watch alot of shade tree mechanic tv shows. Or maybe tie rod ends.

I agree with Chipmaker. I have the same issue at 72 MPH. Everything shakes violently, as soon as I get around 80 it smoothens out. My Mechanic told me I need to do all front end suspension. We rebalanced every wheel and road forced the tires. He stated I need to do Upper/lower control arms, Inner/outer tie rods,Pitman arm, and front shocks. Hopefully this helps. Good luck.

this is an issue with a lot of our older tahoes. i have gone thru 3 sets of wheels. many visits to the shop. 8 sets of tires.

i even took it to a drive line shop to double check the pinion angle and replaced the ujoints.

if you are talking about the vibration that rocks the whole truck. good luck.

if you have that movement in the front suspension take it to a shop, reputable that is, and replace what they recommend.

I have heard that the vibs are the u-joints. i replaced mine at 205,000 miles and made no difference. i will take a video of my truck the next time i have it on the jack and show you the vibration when it hits 60 mph. it gets violent.

I took it to 4 shops and with all 4 quotes looked at them, all of them listed the idler pitman and wheel bearings at average 600 parts and labor... but after having listed parts changed problem persist... plus paid 250 parts and labor with moog pitman and idler

unknown at this time.
you should if you can get a dial caliper with mounts and mount it to a moving part and put the dial probe tip against the connecting one. when you move the parts the dial will basically show you if there is bad play between them. usually if you jack up the frame to take some pressure off the front wheel, but not completely, then grab the top of wheel and push in and out ball joint damage will let that wheel tilt in and out of the wheel well like my upper left shows here

and will let the assembly move like so. http://s1222.photobucket.com/user/Sunlitcomet/media/1996 Chevy Tahoe 4X4/VIDEO0012.mp4.html
it that what you see one the wheel movement?

I would say tie rod end and have your tires rebalanced at a reputable place, like discount tire and tell them what is going on, a lot of times its from the wheels being balanced improperly, theres about four ways to have the wheels balanced depending on the wheel type, tire type, and the type of weights used, I used to work at discount tire for a few years so this is definitely the easiest safest and cheapest way to see whats going on, well tie rod ends are pretty cheap too though, oh and make sure all your grease zerts are greased, makes a difference...
