steering wheel clips

hey new tahoe owner here! i picked up a sweet 2008 ltz and i am just starting to do a bunch of work to it. one of the first things on my list was the ugly steering wheel problem, i have heard that the rubber coating that starts peeling is a common problem. i got some goo gone and spent an afternoon removing all i could to the black plastic underneath and still wasnt satisfied. my mom has a 2013 suburban and her trim pieces are the metallic, so i went ahead and ordered some of those, they look so much better and match the ac vents. does anyone know if this is a tough job to swap out??? im pretty handy with tools and stuff but i dont know if this is a tough job that i would have to take it in to have someone do it.

and then you just start unscrewing things until you can pull those pieces out.

Thanks! I disconnected my battery followed the instructions and actually everything looked pretty straight forward once I got in there, the metallic pieces look so much better then those crappy peeling black ones!

Looks 8 million times better. I did this mod on my 08 tahoe and now i'm back with the black ones on my avalanche... might have to buy another set! Do you happen to have the part numbers handy?

Thanks! I'm so happy with the way it came out! I got mine off eBay so I can't be 100% sure of the part numbers but this is what numbers came with mine
25824698 for left hand side
25824700 for right hand side

On gm parts they were 41 something for each side, under the steering column category, I paid less on eBay because mine were probably off a wreck selling for parts but mine look brand new. I searched for Tahoe steering wheel trim or clips, but I saw some on eBay selling for way more then gm parts direct

Yeah gm parts seemed pretty cheap to me I just happened to find a good deal on eBay so I couldn't pass it up lol

Thanks, Nichole, that does look nice. I'm guessing you took the pictures with an Apple product. They use a different tag in the picture file to determine which end is up that most Windows-based apps don't pay attention to.

You can usually fix it by pulling the picture into a windows-based picture editing application, like Paint, turning the image to the orientation you want, then saving the image, overwriting the old image. That'll insert the proper 'this end up' tag into the image file.

I might get those pieces and replace the parts on the wheel in our Tahoe. Unfortunately, it looks like the original owner rode around with his hand on the top of the airbag housing, and picked, or scratched at it while he was driving. It's all scratched up there. Probably the worst part of the whole truck, as the rest of the interior looks hardly-used, even for an ex-sheriff's car.

Yeah I couldn't fix the pic anyways all I have are apple products. Hold your comments! But it looks so much better in person! I found it to be an easy fix for an ugly problem

No worries. I earned my MS degree on a Mac, and pay for Tahoe mods because of a Mac. Each OS has it's place in the world.

I 'm thinking some wheel trim parts are on the buy list for Monday.
