I just purchased a 2025 Z71 Tahoe with 5.3. I'm almost at a 1000 miles. The engine has never shut down while stopped, even for long periods of time. I'm actually glad it doesn't seem to be working, but curious if others see the same.

Apparently from reading on this forum , some post covid models did not have as/s (and/or other features) equipped from factory due to parts shortage. . .

But 2025 is probably far after that was rectified, so … ?

There might be an engine break-in delay on activating this.

I have been habituated to turning off start stop every key cycle in my 2024 since new so I can't compare.

However I got a 2024 F series work truck and the auto start/stop and the function didn't start until it had 2000 miles.

If it’s also hot and humid and you’ve got the AC set to real cold to the point where it might be using a lot of AC at stop lights, it may not activate the start/stop function.

There’s other conditions such as battery charge level that may also prevent that from working. If you make short trips, it’s possible the battery voltage could prevent that.

The a/c and battery condition is the reason the s/s isn’t doing its thing. I had the same concern.

If you have a 2024 or earlier, I would look at the Range DFM and Auto Stop/Start bypass module, around $250.

I don't know anyone with a GM truck or SUV that has not installed a disabling device for engine Stop/Start. Fortunately, it looks like this nightmare is coming to an end. The new director of the EPA was asked why the EPA was eliminating the requirement for car engine Stop-Start technology. The EPA Director replied that studies show that the technology saved approximately ONE GALLON of gasoline in the LIFETIME of a vehicle. It has been shown to increase the wear and tear on engines, and it adds about $500-$1000 to cost of each vehicle. And another $100 for the gadget to disable it. And he said, EVERYBODY HATES IT.

Only people who don't disable A.S.S. are hybrid owners who smugly say 'thanks' with a nasal twang with their eyes closed.

Looks like we've reached a point of diminishing returns;
using tech tricks to save fuel results in either accelerated wear & tear, and/or faltering reliability.
Even aerodynamic drag improvements yield negligible MpG benefits under 40MpH,
and the fact that vehicles are getting larger again (ESPECIALLY trucks / suvs) negates much of those benefits over 65MpH.

The only tricks left to try, will NEVER happen: making vehicles SMALLER & LIGHTER.
And before scoffing at this idea, when was the last time you could rest your armpit comfortably atop the edge of a pickup truck bed?
