^ Are you seriously planning on keeping that in the truck? If so, for what. Planning on shooting an assailant at 800M :)

its a big investment to leave in the truck w/o some way of locking it in. its worthless for personal defense. too cumbersome to try and quickly grab it in the middle of a jack move.

I think he is going for the "look what I have, Wow what is that" reaction :imo:

Only reason I can think of having it in the truck unless I'm going to the range....:hunter:

Couldn't have said it any better myself.

What he said.

Thats a surefire way to get your rifle stolen, or at the very least your truck broken into and hacked up - lord knows that even if they can't get it out of the rack, they will sure as hell try. Or they'll just steal your truck for their trouble.

You wanna carry a rifle around? Get a Pelican case for it, and put it in the cargo area covered with a blanket or two. You have little to no reason for keeping it in a gun rack.

I mean come on man....I'm an LE firearms instructor and I carry rifles, pistols, ammo and targets/backers in my truck on a weekly basis. I've probably got more reason for a gun rack in my truck as anyone on this forum - but I still don't do it. Too risky.

If you really are hell bent on a permanent mounting solution that can carry a rifle and a shitload of other stuff, check out the slide-out lockable units made by TruckVault. The SWAT guys use them and love them...but they are extremely expensive.

Thats the only way I'd roll though.

can you say ****** substitute?

or

TROLLING?

Even my 20 ga is useless in a vehicle unless I shoot single handed out the window. (venison is mmmm mmmm delicious) ARs are not bullpups. If you must driving around with one where you can 'grab it', you need to either move, or buy Extenze.

Somewhat on topic, I put the gun /guns I plan on using in a zip up gun case, and then put them in the back seat area... It works just fine, no matter if it is my springfield 30.06 with open sight/scope combo, my 12 ga side by side, my 16 ga remington auto, etc.

Ammo goes in the console. In combination, this complies with the separate compartment rule for carrying ammo + weapon.

yea i have my own range and go there frequently and in my town its very rare for people to get broken into around here, not to mention i dont show off my stuff thats just stupid its usually covered up and thats y i posted this thread trying to find some kind of lock box to replace the third row or some way of doing it and i dont carry weapons to town. but i carry some kind of rifle to my range vary often and need a better way to hold them other than letting them bounce around in the seat for everyone to see. some people dont understand having a gun like this and they will think your a lunatic when you just have a coyote and armadillo problem

You can find them a little bit cheaper but they are well worth the 50 bucks. Velcro tie downs for the rifle and lots of compartmens for mags, and various other necessities.
I don't like my gun cases to look like gun case. I've carried that case many times around "sheeple" and been ask. "Oh you play guitar?" my response. "Sometimes."

you dont need all that b/c you shoudn't ever plan on leaving it in there permanently. just get a good soft case to carry it to and from the range.

when you turn 21 you can get a pistol to leave in the car all the time if you want.

Not sure if you were talking about what i posted or the guy below me.

I don't leave anything in my car all night. But When i am carrying something out to my car i don't need anyone knowing what I have. Concealment is my goal, I don't want anyone to know what I have or what I am carrying. If you do see it, you won't be around to tell about it because if I pull it you aren't walking away.
I hear people talk all the time about drawing down as a warning yada yada. That's ridiculous and a sure way to get yourself hurt. If you aren't willing to use it you better not pull it. Sorry, bit of a rant there. I've just seen to many people do dumb shit with weapons and it gives all of us a bad name.

was talking to the OP. again, WHO would see it? its in a soft case, cover it with a towel or blanket. it should only be in the truck to go to and from the range.

i live in an apartment so when I walk out carrying my case to the range or where ever I am going I don't want anyone to know what is in it. And when I carry out soft cases that need to be covered I do cover them. I'm not arguing here just trying to make it clear what I am saying, call me paranoid but I don't even want my neighbours to know I own a gun.

soooo you'd rather leave it in the truck full time? if that's your preference that's cool. i would think you'd rather have it inside for home defense but to each his own. :Handshake:

Ok now i know we definitely got wires crossed. I am NOT a proponent of leaving it in a vehicle. That's what i said in one of my post I don't leave ANYTHING ( as in arms) in my car overnight. What I DO suggest is when you are transporting to and from the vehicle to keep it concealed. In my opinion no one needs to know what you have but you.
