This is my first post here, as i am looking for a new Yukon and need help from you guys searching the perfect one...

here is one of the trucks i have been looking at...please let me know your thoughts...and what else i should look for when i go look at it again

its a 2007, build date of 11/06, denali with 81k miles

WHERE are you/is this truck located at?

I myself would move on, as I do believe there is way too much rust under the hood and there are plenty of deals on Yukons out there.

And of course your statement "but what bothered me" indicates to me that you will not be happy in the long run, as it will ALWAYS bother you.

GOOD LUCK with your search and keep us posted.

+1 - I agree. It does look nice from the outside, but under the hood...... As Jochen stated, there are plenty of deals to be had on these vehicles. I would keep looking. Good Luck!!

Welcome Lee.

That does look like too much oxidation under the hood.

A lot of folks here have 07s and most are thrilled with them ... but if you can find an 08 in your price range you will avoid all the inevitable (usually small) issues characteristic of first model years.

Cheers!

Where are you located? I hate to say it but that looks pretty normal for these trucks if you are in the salt belt. Both of my trucks (from MN) have had similar surface rust on parts of the engine. Nothing that ever caused a problem for me though. Doesn't look pretty but still runs perfect.

I'd move on. Something is off there. I've got an 07 with quite a few more miles than that and doesn't have that kinda rust issue!

I think this is the best answer. That's got to be from being near the ocean, or where they salt heavily in the winter, etc. And I'd bet it's all just surface oxidation.

First off welcome. If that truck was ever exposed to salty roads then that would pretty much be "normal" for it. I have a buddy that used to live in colorado and his 09 silverado looked just like that under the hood. But still drove strong nothing to worry about. Its all cosmetic.

Personally, I think the truck looks fine. Those look like the results of weather conditions. However, For a piece of mind, go with your gut!

Thank you for all the responses guys...appreciate all the help and advice...truck has been a Michigan car all its life....and i agree...for an 07, there is way to much surface rust under the hood...i have a 1998 Mark VIII (sorry for the Ford talk) with 140K on the clock and looks completely perfect compared to that...DD since day one.

i also agree on first year models...im an engineer for the automotive world, and iv seen these trucks get built first hand...and know the whole ordeal with the first year production issues, etc etc...even though for the right price, i will consider one....

i have been looking at 08s and would love to find a deal on one...and yes, im looking for the 6.2L

As I had mentioned before, keep on looking, the right one will pop up.

And just to clarify for my TYF friends, I did NOT say that this may not be normal, I simply said I would not get it with all that rust under the hood. Even though this may be normal for all you guys out there where there is a hard winter, I guess I am just a spoiled California individual.

Man that is clean. I guess that's the benefit to living where they don't put salt and magnesium chloride down all the time in the winter. I wish my engine looked like that.

And it's never been cleaned?!? That is one clean engine!

Well, here are pictures of my Engine, 2006 Yukon, 90K miles.

As mentioned earlier, maybe I am spoiled because I am from California, but this is the way I like for an Engine Bay to look like. ;)

WOW! I guess for the miles on your trucks the engine is really not that old. my 99 just turned 116k, BUT the engine looks nowhere near that clean. I was gonna clean my bay once but the mechanic told me the layer of crud was a like a second skin to the computer!! LOL
