@Tonyrodz has his OEM hood with HD grille if I remember correctly and he trimmed the bottom of the grilled to fit the bumper cap. He will likely chime in soon. I'm still trying to find his build thread and track down those pictures....ran out of patience going back thru the NBS 1500+ posts....lol
I also have a paintable bumper cap but non HD. Thought about trimming the HD grill and painting both. If I go to that extent might as well do the full bumper swap. Decisions......

Ok, what are we talking about guys? I had to trim the bottom of the HD grill to fit my OEM upper bumper cap. I don't remember exactly, but think I had to trim at least 1 to 1 1/2 inches off the bottom so it would fit. I also had to cut off one mounting peg behind the grill. If I remember, it didn't line up. Can't even tell. HD Hood is going on, probably in the spring. Any other questions feel free to give a shout.

Had to cut this peg to get it to fit.
These are the best pics I have of the process. Can you notice how much I trimmed off the lower part of the grill?

Not sure who posted it, but I saw this truck on here with an HD hood and grill, but a Sierra bumper, which allows the full space for the grill. You'd need new brackets for the bumper, but I like the look of it.

I always wondered if a sierra bumper would work with a hd grille. But I want see it color matched with no chrome.

Black is too hidden. Would wanna see red or white or blue to get the full effect
