A few months ago I had a problem with the "Service 4WD" showing up on the console of my 2003 Yukon. I found the post regarding changing the four wheel drive select switch...

http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23246&highlight=service+4wd

I saw that a number of people had luck with replacing this switch and the problem went away. I gave it a try but the problem persisted. I brought the vehicle to a dealer for service. Fortunately a very good friend of mine works for the dealership and he helped to make sure that I was treated fairly. The service ticket read as follows...

"90188 tech found CO327 encoder motor sensor tech removed motor"
"pulled apart to replace position sensor flushed T case"

The part was a "88962315" sensor

The transfercase flush was something they recommended since I have 90,000 miles on the clock.

The problem is gone and unless it's my imagination, the truck rides better.

There is a really good post on the "Full Size Chevy" board which shows pics of the sensor being replaced...

Hope this helps.

Where did you find this switch? Apparently for 2003 Yukon XL's (what I drive) the only part available is a GM one. The part number is 15136040 and it's $116!
