Roof weight rating.

So the rating for a 2007 Yuke is about 175lbs if I remember right. Is the rating for the rack? Or the complete safe load capacity for the roof? I’m considering replacing the existing rack with some suspended steel cable but that only makes sense, to me anyway, if the actual structure of the roof can support more. Say 500 ish more. Not to say I’m going to carry two pro linebackers up there but should I need to, would be nice to know. Also, is there any information one the structural mount points for the rack? Load tolerance etc.

I've always interpreted it as "the safe amount of weight to have on the roof." Is it a cautious/lowball number? Probably, thanks to the lawyers.

That being said, we've had several people on the roof, during events/sightseeing/whatnot, and nothing bad came from it. But not while moving.

I would expect the strongest points are closest to the support pillars. But I also wouldn't plan on throwing an overland rack up there and driving around with 500 lbs in it. Vehicle handling dynamics come into play - you're significantly altering the vehicle's center of gravity, in the "bad" direction.
