I tried the search...... I am still not coming up with a thread that shows a removal, I am not a roof rack guy and would really like to get rid of mine. From what I understand it has to be removed from the inside. Has anyone tackled this job yet?

I'm very interested in this as well. I remember sometime ago coming across a post somewhere (this forum or another) where they said it required a lot of work and that you'll have to fill in the holes after removing the racks. Like you, I've tried searching and could not find enough information.

PPV's don't have roof racks so maybe someone with a PPV can chime in :)

On 14 back you do not need to remove headliner, screwed down from outside, just need to seal the holes and come up with a cover, I have used nice round head allen bolts and painted before, also sealed with paintable sealer and painted to match, the one with the molding looks killer to me

Has anyone made any progress on the roof rails delete for 2015+?? I’m looking to remove mine on my Denali. 2 different GMC dealers parts departments gave me these part numbers 84293177 & 84293176. But when looking on tascaparts.com it appears that they’re only the fillers that go in front of the roof rails. Anyone got input on this? I’d rather use bold on parts before I go to my body guy and just have the roof welded and filled.

Absolutely.

I used GM part numbers 84293176 & 84293177.

Sorry I didn’t take pics but it was fairly straight forward. The front filler strips just pop up and off using a flat head or pick. You have to remove the black retaining clips as well leaving a color matched stud for the new strips to press onto. I then had to lower the rear half of the headliner (refer to headliner removal for this info) once I dropped the head liner enough to get my arms above it, I removed the (8) 10mm nuts holding the aluminum roof rails on. Once the rails were removed I used a rubber grommet and bolt with some silicone to seal up the holes. (You can get these pieces at a local hardware store.) I then cleaned the roof thoroughly because there was pollen and light mold left from between the roof rails and roof skin. When I went to install the PPV strips I realized they required far more retaining pins than I had on my roof. This is because the factory roof rails bolt on and don’t need them. To remedy this I used some weather seal adhesive to glue a the strips down to the roof in the places where a pin was missing. Let sit and she’s good to go.

I really do apologize that I didn’t take pictures. I was kind of on a time crunch to get it done because the weather wasn’t looking to good and I was working outside. If someone decides to use this info and do it, please post pictures for others.

Let me know if I can answer anymore questions.

I really want to do this! Which retaining clips, the ones that are red for the plastic trim or something else?

Was it worth it?

Yes the headliner has to come down. You’ll also be fondling the airbags to get to the nuts. Giant PITA.

I wish I’d thought about a preemptive replacement of the aspirator for the temp control while I had it down.
