YES YES YES! Call your insurance and get to talking. I cant stress this enough. Term like no fault states vs at fault states should be brought up especially if you live in one of the only 12 "no fault" states. This can be the difference of you and your family losing your home and moving in with the mother-in-law. At that point you'd probably wish you died in the crash!
Live or visit one of the "no fault" states, especially in combination with the US healthcare system.

A big reason to get the rental company’s insurance, at least in those states.

Thanks for sharing and so glad you are here to tell us about your accident. Your story brought up a lot of memories. My "Tahoe Saved our Lives" story happened in Aug 2023. ( Literally the name of my thread. :) ) We had no front impact, just lateral rolls, so no front air bags. But all the side ones deployed. All the glass except liftgate broke, so I don't remember any odors at all. TBH, I don't remember the air bags deploying at all. I do remember looking at the rig after we got out - holy crap - all the side bags went off! Still amazed we all walked away with no lasting injuries. My son and I both had a few cuts on our legs, but we had to climb out through the windshield frame. In my thread I talked about my back, but fortunately it was short lived and I don't have any issues now.

Within a month or so of the accident, I already had a replacement: the 2013 Tahoe I have now. I still miss the '09 LS we had, especially the color, but I've put a lot into the '13 and it's turned into my new forever rig.

Insurance stuff: I hear you on the fake comps. They did that too me, I swear some of them were completely bogus. We live in the Portland, OR metro area - all three comps they gave me were 100+ miles away in rural areas. I spent hours doing my own comps, built an elaborate Excel spreadsheet that showed all my formulas and logic. Used ratios and KBB values to account for different trim levels/model year/mileage. My number ended up being about $3000k higher than their initial offer. Very surprisingly, they gave me exactly what I asked for after that. Perhaps that says I could have gotten more, but I treated it as a win and didn't look back. I wish you the best with your insurance journey. If my spreadsheet would be of value to you, please PM me with your email address.

You're welcome Daveo0!
I really appreciate the spreadsheet offer and know how much time and energy you must have put into it. However that settlement is behind us now.
I haven't gone into full detail here in my thread about all the shenanigans the insurance pulled and the hoops they put me through. Just the little bit I did write about the fake comps they used was enough to make my BP go up and telling the full story would've taken a thread on its very own. It consumed my life and made me so angry I was searching for flights to go "Kill Dozer" on them. So I know the struggle and tip my hat to you Sir!

The insurance companies plays an evil game and by talking to others about there dealings and experiences with them its apparent to me. They have a play book. Unfortunately its not a game anyone wants to play when the bills are piling up and you or your loved ones are in pain.

Its like playing a game of chess you never sat down to play, move a Pawn and wait a week for a response all while trying to figure out how you're going to pay the internet bill so you can continue to reluctantly play the game.
