Replaced Factory Brake Lines with Steel Brake Lines

Hi All,

Our 2001 Tahoe has suffered the infamous rusting hard brake lines.
My dad and I were able to replace all of the hard brake lines with Dorman steel lines. When we tightened everything up, one of the brake lines to the MOD started leaking. The others were just fine.

Has anyone had this issue? We retightened, tightened the leaking brake line but it’s still leaking.
Last resort, we may just order copper flare gaskets off Grainger.

While fishing that new line into position, you could have nicked the flare. Or there could be some foreign body in the abs module preventing it from seating fully.

Check connection at MOD and the line itself for a burr or piece of metal strayed. The connection is actually a double flare. The line may need to re double flared if it is damaged.

Oh, yeah, my 2001 just lost it's rear brake line (between ABS and rear axle). It happened while it was at the shop. They called and asked if I had noticed any leaks on my driveway. I had not. At the shop, they showed me where it had left a trail when they moved it, and on they rack, we could see it was coming from above the fuel tank. I was suspicious, it happening while at the shop (since I was back for a job re-do). But after looking at the remnants (they left in place after replacing the line), it looked like it had been in salt water for 25 years. Luckily, this happened at the shop. I surveyed most of the other lines, and they are in much better shape. Was this particular line made out of a different material?
