Would $1600 be a reasonable "all in" price for on-vehicle rear oem locker differential rebuild on '08 Tahoe?
That includes new gears, bearings and posi, lube and all labor.
Oops, axle bearings and all seals included.

Yep, sounds fair to me. I spent $1200 to have just new bearings and seals in my front diff on a 2002 suburban a few years ago.

Thanks guys. That was the all inclusive price if everything is replaced, but that remains to be determined.
I omitted axle bearings and all seals from the list, but they are included in the price.

Reputable NAPA facility just under $1100.00 less ring/pinion. Good luck to you, find a STABLE MECHANIC not a school kid working in a quick lube rat hole.

Didn't see new posi unit on your sheet.

Quote was from seasoned specialty shop that does just axle/spindle work. No complaints posted.
I am trying to weed out shops that don't routinely do it.

Sorry but I'm not a fan of NAPA since getting a muffler with welds worse than my first adult night school class in welding (and those were horrible). Most other NAPA parts I've had to get don't appear to be on par with GM oems and cost as much or more so I rarely head there.

JZ,
Good for you and thanks for taking the time to outline that.
Unfortunately I'm at the age of "the older I get the less I know". Thirty years ago I'd rip into anything. Now I've learned to let someone with experience earn their living and I don't pay twice after after messing up. If it was a preassembled "pumpkin", sure, but not in this case.
And I don't have a press or tools tools specific to the job and am at the age of reducing the collection rather than add to it.

What does GM originally use for the G80 locker?
