Rear Gear Ratio Question

Researching new Tahoe/Yukon and from what I can tell, there is only one option, 3.23. I don't have any real world experience driving one of these trucks so I am not sure how the transmission is geared but 3.23 seems like an awfully high gear for a truck of this size with any of the motors. Thoughts?

Consider the two transmissions above and their rear axle ratios. As you can see, the 10-speed 3.23 smokes the 6-speed with it's lower gear ratio. If you are towing and want more pull, shift down to a lower gear. The more gears, the more options.

Thanks Swathdiver - Super helpful. I was thinking more about around town drivability and now it makes sense why they only offer 3.23s.

They do offer 3.73 in the half ton pickups with a commensurate increase in towing capacity.

With the gear ratio spread of the 10 speed transmission, it really doesn't matter what the rear gear ratio is...there's another shift available, all the time.

The transmission acts kind of like a CVT in normal driving, the RPM really only depends on how far you push the gas pedal.

(but to understand my perspective, I have some old cars with 3 speed transmissions, where rear gear ratio really does matter)
