Hey guys, I have a 2dr 4x4 and have noticed lately that it's taking bumps REALLY hard and if there's a series of bumps, it feels like it literally bounces off the road and if it's on a curve in the road it's like the back end wants to come out and around till it comes back down a little off and straightens back out. It's a little scary at highway speeds. Would this be an indication of bad shocks? I put on some bilstein 4600s about 8 years ago but only about 30k miles.

Yep!! Sounds like you need new rears. My 99 Denali did the same as yours. My rig felt very unstable at highway speeds. New shocks all the way around took care of the problem.

^ shocks are used to control the bounce to help keep your wheels planted on the ground. Once they go bad there is nothing controlling it. Also something else you will want to check is your spring shackles. If one gets rusty and breaks it can cause the same thing.

Thanks guys. I'm just surprised that the shocks have gone bad so quick and now I'm hesitant to get more bils. Now comes the hard part, trying to decide which ones to get.

Soooo....it looks like I may have bought the wrong shocks to begin with. I got under there and the model number on the rears is F4-BE5-2413-H0 which looks like is for a 4DR. Would that cause this?

Dang, it looks like the fronts are for 4 DR only also. Wow what a big F up. I wonder what the difference is and why there would even be a difference.

It doesn't seem to matter much. Most places list them as 4wd or rwd only a few list them a 4dr or 2dr. Bilstien seems to be one that lists them separately. There is no big difference besides Bilstien markets thier shocks as some of the best so they probably have them listed separately as the 4dr would weight a little more. So no it would not cause them to fail prematurely. It depends more on what kind of roads you travel the most and just how much driving you do with ur tahoe.

Well the bilstein guy unspoken to yesterday confirmed that there was a difference between the two but he didn't think it would make that much of a difference. That maybe over time they've just worn down. I bought the right ones and will see if it makes a difference.
