Hello,

Looking for some help with a radio upgrade in my 2007 Yukon LTZ
Radio RPO - U3U
Factory NAV, CD, (no bluetooth) XM Radio and on-star. Truck has park assist and factory backup camera. (The speakers on the A pillar say BOSE but the head unit does not have the Bose script on the bottom.)

I would like to install one of those factory looking aftermarket radios with android nav, backup cam dvd, bluetooth etc.. you see on line and on ebay.

What do I need to retain factory chimes, retained power etc?

It's all so confusing.

Thanks in advance,

Lost-in-radioland

Hi, My first recommendation is that you determine what your total budget is for any and all audio system improvements. Once you have determined how much you are willing to spend in total, then you can start to plan accordingly, and things will start to come into focus and fall into place. Also, once you have assembled a plan for all audio system improvements, then you can implement it in stages, so that you can still maintain your required cash flow for daily/monthly expenses.

Personally, I like Kenwood head units, as there are several models at different price points, and they deliver solid sound and features within each price point. The Kenwood Excelon series has excellent sound quality, it is packed with the features that you are looking for, and it comes in a few models with different price points. I also note here that I do not have any connections with Kenwood, and my comments simply reflect my experiences with Kenwood head units in several auto/SUV installations.

For maintaining all existing functionality, particularly existing steering wheel controls, and this is key, you will need to purchase and install a Universal Steering Wheel Control Adapter, along with the head unit. I use Android, and my Kenwood Excelon head unit works very well with Android Auto.

I described my audio system in a previous post, so I will list the link below for you to view. I planned out my total budget in advance, selected components that I could afford at each stage and were compatible with my ultimate audio system goal and total budget, and then I performed the upgrade in stages.
