Question for gang

So I recently had to do a bunch of work to the truck for a nasty misfire... now that all is good and the codes are gone it seems to run well but then i started getting the p0430 code for low cat. threshold... so i replaced the downstream o2 and havent had the code since... now heres my question... does anyone have an idea how to still tell if my cat is bad? the truck seems alittle labored in the past week, almost like its pulling a trailer but not as bad as my last car with a bad cat (couldent get up a hill)... seems like my gas milage is going down a bit too... i just dident know if there was a quick way to check the cat or if anyone has any ideas to my problem.


Side note, if i do need a cat, has anyone just cut the old ones out of the piping and welded universals or high flows in? im just looking for the cheapest option if i must go that way...

When my cat on my older blazer finally gave up it literally sounded like the exhaust was breathing out of a scuba snorkel!! Loud and plugged up sound, the more I stepped on the gas the less power I had, and it wanted to overheat alot!! Sometimes you can hit the cat (when it's cold that is) and hear if there is anything loose or rattling in there, otherwise it's hard to fully tell until it gives up the ghost!

JK removed his cat and stuck a leafblower up to it and was able to tell that way that his were clogged up

Ya we removed the cats here, not bad at all just gotta put some muscle into it with a breaker bar. If you don't have one, rent one at Autozone $25

if i was to remove the cats with a stock exhaust how would that change my sound? and how would i get past the downstream 02 sensor codes?

Couldnt you tell by the pressure off the tail pipe if the cat was bad?

it seems to be flowing... but there are 2 cats... could be one bad and one good so its still giving me pressure... the exhaust does seem a bit hot though
