Premature tire wear

Hello,

Has anyone had success in getting gm to cover tires? I have a 2021 suburban with 27k miles on it. I’m the original owner had it for 1.5 years. Rotated every 7-8k miles at oil changes at the dealership. They are down to 3/32 and the dealer wouldn’t rotate this time due to so low.

Anyone ever get gm to warranty tires? I know if I go and buy the same tires from a tire shop they would be with the tire warranty.

Tires do not fall under GM’s warranty. They are covered by separate tire warranty by the manufacturer. You will have zero success trying to warrantee them out… put on Michelin defenders and carry on, you’ll be happier…..

I can tell you that I'm not impressed with my tires on my '21 Tahoe which has 11k miles on it. It's got the 22" wheels.

I was looking at the tread wear the other day and had the dealer perform an alignment at about 800 miles. Seems like they're wearing more on the outside edges than the rest of the tire.

Then again two of my tires have been replaced. First one the tire came apart or something cut into it at 411 miles and the other had a nail in the sidewall that couldn't be repaired at 10k miles.

From what I can tell there's no treadwear warranty on the tires which I think is crazy. That's the first time I've heard of that.

There's a option from Pirelli on Tire Rack which I might consider next if mine become as bad as yours which they seem to be on track to do.

I'd still check with the dealer to see if anything can be done as that's ridiculous needing tires so quickly. Curious what you find out or if others have had any luck.

I have read that at the higher setting it makes the tires wear on the outside.

27K is not "So Quickly".... If you can get over 25K on OEM tires, you have basically got your money's worth. Remember these are the cheapest mass sourced tires they could buy in huge volume for like 50.00 a piece. GM could care less how long they last. I too feel they are thin carcassed, Slippery in rain, and generally untrustworthy. I do 3-4 road trips a year and the #1 side of the road breakdown is TIRES. NEVER skimp on them. I'm going to run these OEM's till 20K just because I want to get SOME good out of them, then it's on to Defenders.

I actually switched to the Pirelli's at 2,000 miles. I was able to sell the factory tires for a little more than what discount offered me. I have put 19,700 miles on those Pirelli's and they're already down to 5/32. I am going to put the Defenders on in a couple months.

Defenders, if you are doing primarily asphalt driving.

Right in the MFGers Tire Manual, Bridgestone provides no treadwear warranty for OEM tires...

I bought new, in 2016 an Infiniti QX50. ( fun car - lot'sa power).....
The tires were Dunlop Sports. They wore out way too fast and no mileage warranty from both dealer or manufacturer. The reason is..... Infiniti chose these tires because they grip the road well, to show 'handling'... but they wear fast. ( Bought new tires last year...)......

I just bought Michelin LTX MS for my '05 Yukon..... ( Oh, my.... wonderful tires)...
The tires I put on 4 years ago were Yokohama ( Discount Tire). They wore out in 25,000 miles, but the "warranty" was 70,000. BUT... Yokohama does not warranty them after 4 years. ( WT hell?).... Plus, the Yokohama's are DANGEROUS on the wet when aged/slightly worn.

So, last month, I went to Discount Tire..... They chose to create their own warranty on the Yokohama's.... They gave me $51.00 per tire!! ( Why I have been doing business with them since 1992).
I bought the Michelin's ( 17"), all new TPMS sensors and their road hazard warranty, all for the price of 4 retail- sale price, Michelin's. ( $1,200 including taxes/fees )
So,..... Dealers use grippy tires to enhance handling to sell the vehicle, but lousy wear, and they know this.

So just an update… I finally got in to get new rubber. I was able to get Goodyear to give me $100 per tire back. Only downfall is they required me to get the same ones. So basically half price for all 4

What Goodyear tires are they?

You'd be suprised - same brand/model/size tires are actually different from what comes on from the factory and what you would buy on the retail market. It's a different rubber compound. You can tell by the UTQG numbers.

Good to know. The guy at the tire shop told me the same thing..
