I'm fixing the really sloppy steering my on 1996 K2500HD. The pitman arm has so much slop the steering wheel turns 90 degrees before it does anything. I'm also replacing the idler arm as it is nearly as bad. Since I have to unhook the power steering lines anyway, I plan to put all new fluid into the system.
All I can find is to use "GM power steering fluid" or equivalent. What alternative can I use. If I have to buy GM fluid, I will. However, I've got some here already and don't want to spend money I don't need to. I have a new steering gear in the shop and a new idler arm and mount on order.
