Please in the name of all that is right, can we get rid of the triple honk already?

No. If you leave the vehicle with the key fob in your pocket while it is running and close the door, it triple honks.
My key always remains in my pocket, it never comes out until I take it out to unlock the door to our house.
Times of annoyance (all while the truck is left running)- getting out to get our mail, hopping out to check the straps on our atv/boat, hopping out to hand my daughter's lunch to her that she forgot prior to boarding the bus, running into the garage to grab something before leaving,...these are only instances off the top of my head but it happens more often than that.
Sure I could turn the truck off every time prior to exiting or leave the drivers door hang open.
But you guys can't tell me you never leave your truck running while you jump out to get something real quick.
And no, it cannot be stolen while doing such because the key is out of the vehicle.

I guess I have noticed these instances more during the past couple cold weather months.

If it is outside the vehicle and honking at you, I think something may need to be adjusted. I don't believe what you are experiencing to be normal operation.

As for taking the vehicle without the key in it... I am pretty sure you can. At least other vehicles with key fobs allow you to. Of course you are super screwed if you turn off the car when you get to your destination and realize you left the key at home!

Okay Mr None smarty pants. Key definition:

noun
  1. 1.
a small piece of shaped metal with incisions cut to fit the wards of a particular lock, and that is inserted into a lock and turned to open or close it.
  2. 2.
each of several buttons on a panel for operating a computer, typewriter, or telephone.
SHOW ME! Since I am so new, please SHOW ME all your knowledge...!!! My first car was a 1964 Olds. When was the last time you adjusted front drum brakes? Or points? Or a microswitch for a switch-pitch torque convertor? Do you know what a carburetor is?

I should know better than to argue an idiot, but whatever. Congrats on derailing an otherwise good topic.

:biggun:

Ah that makes perfect sense now. You aren't new to cars.. You are on old timer that is new to this thing called technology AND have bad memory. My apologies. Let me guess, you are still on AOL and you have dial up. I mean how else can one explain the fact you don't know what a key fob is?

OK let's try something a bit more simple: What about a key card that unlocks your hotel door? No physical metal key or lock cylinders there...that must be relegated to "magic elves" in your mind, right?

Look, you lost the argument a long time ago...now you are just looking foolish. Like you, I have worked on plenty of old cars in my lifetime. Unlike you I am familiar with innovation and the associated terms.

As for off topic, you obviously forgot it was your brilliant post that accomplished that. You shot with your 50 Cal and missed. I had to correct you with my Nimitz class aircraft carrier.

I'm still waiting for you to contribute ANYTHING useful here. Something, ANYTHING?

I have a '16 Yukon XL Denali and it doesn't do that. I leave it running all the time to drop off the kids in daycare. Are you sure the option that reminds you to take your keyfob isn't active? Sorry but it's 6am and I can't remember the exact option or where it's found..

I'm wondering if there is an option that allows me to disable it. Odd that some of you don't have it happen.
I did some experimenting yesterday and it does allow you to drive away in the truck if it is left running and the key fob is not in the vehicle.
With all the security features, I am surprised by this. I would think it would turn off if one tried to take the vehicle out of park with the engine running and key fob missing.

It will allow you to drive away--you just can't restart. This is also a safety feature in case the vehicle can't "see" the fob for an intermittent time while driving down the highway (low batteries or whatever).

It is curious it does not happen to some. Mine does it sometimes but not others? I know it is partly related to shifter position (park vs neutral), but I also wonder if parking brake has anything to do with it?

Leave the keys in it, and that won't happen.

The purpose of the triple honk is to remind you that the keys have left the vehicle, not that you did.

If you were to drive away after the keys were removed, it would let you. But restarting the truck you couldn't do.

That is the warning.

So to me the idiocy is that if you get out of the truck while letting the keys set on the center console, all is well.
But if you step out of the truck with the keys in your pocket, it warns you.
So I guess I should get into the truck and lay the keys on the center console and then pick them up after I arrive at my destination. So really it's just like the old style vehicle in which one stuck their keys into the ignition...

I don't think it should honk in either case.
And if one can actually get out of their truck while parked in a garage and not realize it is still running, they should not be driving a vehicle.

I've owned two other passive start/entry vehicles and neither one would honk. They would, however, make a subtle ding and provide a message on dash but nothing annoying as the honking.

ONCE AN FOR ALL... The triple honk is to warn you that you left the vehicle WITH THE KEY FOB STILL INSIDE. You drove the vehicle, opened the door, got out, closed the door, and the vehicle is still sensing the key fob within the interior perimeter. If your vehicle is triple honking and your key fob is outside the vehicle, your car is broken.

Conversely, if you have started the vehicle and then exit it with the key fob inside and it DOESN'T triple honk, it is broken.

No offense bud, but you truly don't know what we are talking about. Perhaps your truck is different. There is a triple honk that does alert you if the key is left inside the truck after it is turned off and you step out. That can be turned off and mine is.
My truck, and others, honk if you step out of the truck and close the door while it is running with the key in your pocket.
And conversely, if you start the vehicle and exit it with the key fob inside the truck it will not honk. How would it exactly know you exited the vehicle? Just because you opened the door? The truck is still running and the key is inside...

I know.
Next time I'll just start a thread that says, "What are different sounds your truck makes?"

This has always been a controversial topic (was on the explorer forum as well) clouded by the fact that there are many configurations of the Tahoe/Denali/Escalade.

Add to that those with "keys" don't know what you are talking about, and some of them don't know what they are talking about, it can lead to quite a variety of responses!

I would just like to live near those responsible for the HONK HONK so I could remind them every morning bright and early!!!

Thanks for being the one to step out!

Just to add to this...

I'm away from home on a business trip and get a nail in my tire. I do a giggle search for tire shops and pick a nationally recognized chain. I go there and leave them the keys and wait for my vehicle.

The tech pulls my Tahoe into the bay (I'm watching like a hawk--yeah, im that guy) and, guess what? Leaves the keys in the vehicle (as is customary). Know what happens next?

Can you guess?

Wait for it...

Yep, in seven bays about half the mechanics crap themselves as my Tahoe goes HON-HONK--HONK!!!!

Sad but true... Wish it were a separate speaker/driver/piezoelectric whatever and more of a pleasant chime!!

Just had to share.
