p0335 crankshaft position sensor

while out running errands yesterday, my check engine light came on. ran by and advance auto parts, and they pulled code p0335 - faulty crankshaft position sensor. they had the part in stock, but at $62 i said i would research this a bit more... went to rockauto.com and got the oem part for $31.

my question is: where is this little bugger located on the motor? i've got the 2009 5.3 v8 J code motor... i was poking around online, and some 5.3's have in the front passenger side of the motor, other 5.3's have it underneath behind the starter.

anyone have a definitive answer where this part actually is?

The crack position sensor is located behind the intake manifold right by the fire wall. You are going to need a mirror to get it out if thats too hard then you will need to remove the intake manifold to get to it. There is several videos on you tube.

got it fixed!

for those that may search in the future, this is about a 30 minute job, and i was able to swap the part without having to lift the truck up. the crankshaft position sensor on the '09 body style tahoe's with the 5.3 J code motor is located just above the starter. get under the truck from the passenger side, and locate the starter. i believe it takes a 14mm socket to remove the two bolts that hold it in, then use a 13mm to remove the nut that holds the positive wire from the battery. also remove the single wire harness next to the power wire. remove the starter and then you will see the sensor, which is also held in with a 13mm bolt. after you remove the harness and the bolt, you have to turn the sensor 90 degrees down in order to get it out. also, beware of replacement parts from you local auto part stores - reviews show that they are hit or miss. i got the ac delco part from rockauto for half the cost of the aftermarket equivalent.
