I was driving down the freeway yesterday with cruise set at 70 mph. The engine suddenly got loud and started to loose power. No CEL at the time, but I pulled off the freeway just to figure out what happened.

I was able to drive the vehicle home at 55 on the freeway. Now having a hard time starting and the P0016 code is on. When you step on the gas the engine gets really loud and it is really struggling to get any speed in addition to idling rough.

The P0016 says....

Crankshaft Position
Camshaft Position
Correlation Bank 1 Sensor A

Likely hood this is just a crank/cam sensor? I suspect though this is going to end up being a worn timing chain that needs to be replaced?

Any ideas where to start diagnosing?
