Wife and I are looking to trade in the Z71 for a High Country. There are currently 2 that we are looking at (black and white) with almost identical features and pricing. The wife prefers the white color however the black one has air ride + retractable steps.

There are a couple questions I would love some opinions on:
- Do you think the color or options on a vehicle are more important
- At this point in the year, would you purchase whats available or wait to custom order a 2027 (assuming a hypothetical scenario of no price changes)

I didn't want a black HC, but air and steps were more important than color. The black HC sits outside year round and gets really hot, so far the AC cools it off fairly fast, even better with a remote start. The black is holding up ok, but a pain to maintain. I took it off the dealer lot, got a fair price, < 10 miles when I bought it. Got to test drive it as well. Bought a Durango on a custom order, fortunately it worked out, but took a few months to be delivered. The wait wasn't fun.

There will be a price increase. I’d get the white. I think the steps are nice except if you live in an area that has snow/ice and they use salt. More to break. Air ride is nice too, but at a grand a shock,. The magnetic ride is great except when you hit a substantial rut. Then it’s not soft and you remember you have a truck

I settled for a 2026 Black XL Denali without air ride and power steps. But, it’s a diesel and, key part here, it was available. I wanted to factory order Silver with the full blown reserve package but after 3.5 months of waiting I got lucky on a dealer transfer.

We have salt and icy winters here so power steps probably aren’t ideal anyway. Air ride would have been nice, but mag ride is still an upgrade from the SLT we traded in.

I was afraid of black, I’m a bit particular with keeping things shiny and new, but when you stand 10 feet away from it you can’t even tell. I’m actually glad we got black. Looks unreal. Just got it ceramic coated and stopped worrying about every spec of dirt. It looks 85% clean 95% of the time. Whatever!

Color: I've had both black and white vehicles, and my favorite color for vehicles is black. BUT, the difference inside the vehicle, when left outside in the sun is SUBSTANTIAL. If you have pets, and they ride with you, if the sun is out, and your leave them in the vehicle while shopping, the motor and AC must be on with a black vehicle. With a white vehicle, no AC is needed for temperatures below 80 degrees, with the windows down a bit.

Features: The air ride is a great feature, particularly if you have riders who physically have difficulty climbing into a truck. Retractable running boards can be problematic, particularly in the winter, as noted by the many threads/posts here asking for help to free them up and work properly.

I consider black a full-time job. I would keep looking. White would be my first choice. I wish they still had the '23/'24 sage green color, then that would be my first choice.
For a second choice, I lean towards Sterling Gray Metallic, but worry it would be hard for other drivers to see on black top (faded to gray) roads.
I also like the Tricoat red, but like the earlier "Cherry Red" version better. I worry it would be the same as black to keep clean.

99% sure we are going to just custom order a vehicle instead. I get GMS pricing so theres no real incentive to buy anything off the lot (except value of my current trade).

As a fun twist, we are most likely going to go Suburban instead of Tahoe

Options every time. I had the air suspension and retractable steps on a few recent Denali's. Great options. The air ride is beyond fantastic.

I order all the time. The chances of my dealer locating one how I spec it is slim. I'll be ordering a 2027 Yukon as soon as the sales manager can start placing orders. I'm not in a bind and have the patience to wait. I don't want to compromise.
