I'm looking for opinions on plugs and wires. I'm debating on getting this tune up kit from jegs. it includes :
  • Extreme 9000 8mm Wire Set (featuring double silicone jackets & 1200°-rated spark plug boots with low-resistance Ferro-Spiral cores)
  • Distributor Cap & Rotor (made of high dielectric strength material that has brass and copper inserts and stainless steel contact springs)
  • U-Groove Copper Core Spark Plugs (burn efficiency is maximized for better performance and lower emissions)
are the U groove spark plugs that helpful in our older trucks?

I have a 95 hoe with 196k on the clock. she gets about 800 miles a week of highway driving.
I'm also on the fence at adding an MSD or Mallory or Accell CID system. the goal would be to improve my MPG and HP. I already have an intake, a Motorvation stage 2 chip, 160 degree thermostat, electric fan, 240 amp alternator.

the next thing on the list is the High flow cat, and the magnaflow cat back 3 1/2 system, with the 50 series muffler.

tips? suggestions? rotten apples? throw them all my way...

Plugs: acdelco or autolites or recommended by msd when using the system.

cap and rotor, Wire set acdelco or msd

MSD ignition system including control box 6 and coil

I used accell cap/rotors on a slant six till 2006 and they never last more the 5 months before terminal pitted real bad.

Most likely the low temp thermostat is having a bad effect on mileage as well.

I would add headers to your exhaust plans too.

ditto on the MSD stuff. Acdelco plugs, msd wires, cap, rotor and such. Anything to burn the hotter spark is going to help in gas mileage. Stick with the stock therm like what sunlit said.

the chip manufacture recommended 160 thermostat. when i had the 195 in there before the swap it ran way HOT. maybe i'll go to a 180? idk. I really just wish i could ditch TBI....

I am sure with out the chip and go definitely with other upgrades you can do better. Edelbrock and Holley make tbi units that can get you more power.
