Ok i guess this goes here.. BodyDrop... is it worth it?

.. and not "is it worth it" financially.. because who can truelly answer such a relative question...

but "is it worth it" as in, is it something im going to truelly regret down the road..

i looked at channeling it and it looks like thats the way to go if im going to do it.

Channeling it forces you to cut a few holes in the floor to accommodate higher parts of the frame and modifying the core support and firewall and dropping the body mounts..

the end result is nearly stock floor.. you lose about 1 inch.


Sooo back to the question.. its gonna be an extra four or five grand to body drop it... and i just dont wanna have buyers remorse and end up having to deal with sags and shit the rest of my life with the truck

So like.. IF i one day needed to use it as a daily driver.. would it hold up?

Is it gonna be more issues than its worth?

I was thinking that if i kept it for a long time this wide tire body drop could turn into something fun.. maybe even going super racey with it and doing a massive engine setup and super stiff air spring setup down the road..

Im just worried that since im going to lay frame... and we have to cut the floorboard out of the back and cut the back half of the frame off to narrow it.. i might as well body drop it since we are gonna be there anyway... but i dont wanna regret it.

tough call...to me its not worth it as you really run the chance of paying a lot of money just to cause a lot of problems with the truck. But, if the guy doin the work really knows what he's doing, that isn't even an issue.

Hard to say. I dont think what im doing is worth it really. At the end of the day its your call. Hopefully you will be happy with that call.

Depends on how much you trust the fabrication. At this point I would say buy a welder and a frame jig if you have some garage space. Build a frame with a steering rack front suspension and body drop it 3 or 4". I don't think it would be worth the money for such a small drop.

its not like that

channeling it will give me a 4 inch body drop.. you just only lose an inch of floorboard because of how its done....

Picture this... when you look at your frame and how far it is from the body only a few areas are close.. some parts of the frame are further away than others..

So when you do a channel job you only lift the floor on the areas where it needs it..

The rest of the drop comes from lowering the frame mounts.

You still get 4 inches.


The question isnt is it worth the money for the drop.. question is how will it be 10 years from now if i keep it

Oh I thought you were saying it was only and inch or so guess I skimmed over it plus I'm all high and shit. Guess it would be worth the loot if dude can gusset everything and make it straight for you. I see it as the next step toward the truck's progress along with the new paint and intros. I have a pic of some 20x15s I need to post, shit is nasty as hell.

Channeling is a great way to do it, but IMO since the tahoe has so much cabin space that is going to be "modified" because of the channel, cross members etc..

I would do a stock floor body drop..that way you keep the entire inside of the tahoe stock, besides the rear of course..you can set everything up exactly how you want it.

if i wanted to do a stock floor id wanna do a frame off build and litterally cut the frame in half and box it back in.. then all you gotta do is do the tranny hump and be done..

But im not ready for that..

maybe ill just do a natural body drop... i dont know..

im still debating on the whole process..

How much lower can you really go since your running board already hits the ground? Can you really go any lower and still drive it?

I heard doored rides dont last for shit.. the body starts warping and then welds weaken and then rust happens.. i have heard tooooo many horror storys..if i do it ill lay pinch.. and get a peice of "L" angle steel welded over it so its smooth with the rocker and paint it all to match.. so it looks like its laying rocker but still has the sturdiness

if it was to lay rocker panel, yea i think its worth, just laying frame is played out lol jk wish mine would lay out

thats the whole question.. it WILL lay frame.. but im debating the long term reliability of a full body drop

I think im sold on a body drop

Ive had as many bodydropped s10s and a friend has a doored s10... if you drive it the right way and dont rail it 24.7 it will last.....

traditional over stock floor.... that shouldnt enve be a question... stock floor is the only way to go if you do a traditional you will regret it once you cut the body up like that....

GOOD LUCK on the decision.... either way it will look sick as f*ck

i would do like cmcarr85 said stock floor body drop. what they will do is cut about 2-4" out of the top of frame rails and top them off. it all depends on how much you want. then they will lower your body mounts. there is more then that of cousreyou have to make a new trasmission ans drive shaft tunnel. zsection the front frame rails for the bunper mounts and other things here and there. but it will be better than a channeling. if you go to a site called www.ifcustom.com they have a lot of pictures of that styel of body drop.http://www.ifcustom.com/projects/subprojects/archives.htm on this link you can see all the work.
