Hi,

I'm looking to get a 2018 Tahoe with 18k miles. It is a security vehicle for local nuclear power station so it doesn't have a lot of miles. It probably did have a lot of idle miles.

It seems to have regular service done at local chevy dealership. All goodies like white/red flashing light, siren, spot lights are included.

I have few questions if you don't mind:

1. What is a reasonable price for this vehicle if there is no major issues?
2. Grey is not my favorite color so I'm thinking wrapping it gloss black. I want to DIY it. How hard is this?
3. The dealer said the doors are armored because they're really heavy and have reinforced hinge. Is this a factory option or aftermarket?
4. I intend to remove the storage locker and metal fence. Is there a market for this?
5. For $10k more, I can get a 2021 LS with 75k miles that was "commercial use". Which one do you prefer?
6. I heard SSV floor is vinyl. Is it waterproof?
7. How is the speaker quality in the stock SSV? How much to upgrade to a Bose-equivalent system?

I like your attempt at finding a good vehicle. I would buy this buy this for the right price as well. But, based on what you said you would like to change, dismantle, upgrade, etc then I would pass and find what you really want.

Also, the amount of idle hours has to be ridiculous with only 18k miles. Is it an auction by chance?

if this is the vehicle in question then it has aftermarket upgrades and at only 18k miles it is basically a new car.
reinforced doors and 3/4 ton axles are not oem options.
vinyl is vinyl is is water proof up to the lip edge, then obviously the water has to go somewhere.......
radio upgrade is whatever your budge allows, sky is the limit....

Thanks B train. I kind of like the unremoved goodies like siren/spotlights. I always wanted a cheapo retired police crown vic 15 years ago but never got chance to purchase one. This won't be my primary vehicle so I'm not too concern about day-to-day usefulness.

I don't know how many idles hours are in this vehicle. I assume it can't be worse than a similar aged police department car. This car is from a local Canadian dealer and not an auction car. It has been sitting at the dealer for more than 140 days now.

I don't know if this has a 3/4 tons axels upgrade. Are you able to tell from the photos?

I assume this car is very lightly used as it is probably driven primarily within and patrol around the security power station compound.

Do you know if these standard config rear seats are leathers or vinyl? I know the front is cloth but can't tell if rear is leather or vinyl?

Lastly, do these standard rear seat have standard childseat restraint connection points like in most cars?

Gotcha. I would agree with you on comparable police vehicles. Being that you are in Canada, then something this low mileage and probably rust free is definitely a benefit.

If it's been on the lot for 140 days, I would assume you have some leverage on price. What are they asking currently?

they look like like leather, probably upgraded for passenger comfort.
I was wrong on the axles thought they were 8 lug at first glance, the wheels threw me off

The rear seats in my 2011 PPV do have the standard Latch restraint points.

There is a way in the DIC to read out engine hours. Have to search some to find it. I stumbled across it on my '19.

They initialled listed $23500 in August then raised their price to $26000.

I'm looking to offer maybe $21000 or under and drive it until the wheel falls off.

The only thing is that I'm not in rush to buy the new car now. The used car wholesale price seems to dropping 1%+ WEEKLY.

I'm not sure if I should hold off until next year and get better deals.

I looked at a number of fleet burbs, the rear seats were vinyl. You’d most likely have to remove the emergency lighting, many states even ban the a-pillar lights on personally owned vehicles.

These trucks may have engine hour counters (Can be reset) in the driver info center

Up armoring type mods may also result in a title brand, do you have a carfax report?

Wraps aren’t for everyone, just doing headlight and bumper wraps have proven challenging to me, I would look into what a pro would say.

Good luck finding your dream ride!

If you keep the interior mostly the way it is should be good to go. If you want to change the interior to look like a civilian one probably add a extra 2k. That safe if you have the code is worth 1,500 or more though. Def take the emergency lights out and sell them. SSV is 2wd right?

I would say to google the vin and see what the dealer paid. Most likely they bought it from an auction. And the auction made the vin public.

That mileage is low and nothing legit at 20k or less miles is going for less than 30k.

My SSV and PPV rears are terrible and will be replaced. There is so much power ran to the center console from all the lights, an amp would be an easy install. I’ve done it twice. A sub of any size sounds amazing in the Tahoe.

I personally avoid a wrap and would see what it looks like with that paint, tints, some labeling or however you custom it. But the color would look great with up fits and upgrades all black. I’ve seen 2019’s with 70k miles sell for 27k. So 20k miles on a 2018 for anything below 25 is a good deal.

Good luck!
