Hello,

I need to replace the windshield on my 15 Denali. I don't have the heads up display. I am wondering if the windshield from a company like Safelight is the same quality as the original. I called the dealer and they want 550 for the windshield and 190 to install it. Safelight wants 400 total. Is it ok to buy it from Safelight?

Thank you.

Safelight does good work. Their glass is excellent quality. Shouldn't have any problems getting a windshield from them especially if your denali doesn't have the HUD.

We've used Safelight plenty of times on our vehicles without much issue regarding the glass. Their techs on the other hand...we've run into a couple of issues over the years. Once was the fact that the tech didn't read the notes in the request and brought the wrong kind of glass for the car and we had to reschedule the appointment. Another time the tech put the windshield wipers (not the blades but the actual arm of the wiper) on incorrectly.

Your best bet is to go through a body shop, I had an OBS Tahoe that the previous owner had the windshield replaced and when they cut the old one out they cut into the metal around the window mostly the top along the roof and it started to rust, had to have the window pulled out and had the rust cleaned up and repainted, safelite etc. only pay a certain amount of time to do each window so it can be rushed at times and stuff like this happens there supposed to prime any areas where they cut into the paint

Thanks for replying. I also have a quote from Gerber glass which is a body shop for a couple of dollars more. I hate worrying about some else touching my truck. I don't even want to drive it in the snow!! It cost 200 more to get the windshield with the hud. I am considering this in case there is a possibility of upgrading in the future.

I have a 15 Denali without heads up and had Safelight replace it. No issues and great quality. they sent 2 techs to install on mine. Cost me nothing because I have glass replacement on my insurance.

Hate to say but almost all bodyshops farm out their windshields to outfits like Safelite (or someone cheaper) anyway. Also, if they're cutting down so deep they hit metal they're doing it wrong anyway. The main layer of urethane is about 1/2" thick and it stays on the vehicle unless they make a mistake. A pretty big mistake. I used to install auto glass.

Hello,

Out of curiosity I called my insurance company. Windshield replacement is fully covered! The company they use is safelight. I made a appointment to go their shop.

Do they have the replacement glass? I am still waiting for OEM glass from safelite for my 2015 Tahoe. I ordered it on 10/22 & supposedly it's on back order from the Dealer? I check with them every couple of days and that's their story?

Hello,

Do you have heads up display? When I talked with safelight I don't know if the person knew if the windshield was in stock or not. My appointment isn't until Jan 7 anyways. I talked with a gmc dealer last week and he has been waiting for a windshield as well.

I had to replace the windshield for my 15 Yukon XL in Feb of this year- Seems as though GM windshields are either far more brittle or at an angle that causes more broken cracked windshields (based on my experience, or reading this thread). Having said that, I called my insurance company, who covered a new windshield, and they referred me to Safelite (I used them once before on a repair years ago and was very happy with them). At the time, there were no "off-brand" windshield manufacturers, and the insurance agent said he'd authorize OEM replacement (the truck was but 5 months old at the time) and Safelite showed up with the GM Windshield. Took about 2 hours (and they came to my home and did it right in the driveway) and I've had no problems since. I did have to re-attach the plastic cover for the unit behind the rear-view mirror, and took it to the dealer to make sure it was correctly installed, but other than that- I'm hoping to never have to use them again. Hearing OEM Glass is on "back-order" is a bit disconcerting, but I'd happily recommend Safelite to replace your glass. I am hoping to never have to deal with that again however (as I'm sure anyone else, including you would be). Oh, and I do NOT have a heads-up display, (aside from the collision warning strobes that flash when the truck thinks there is an object ahead of it).

I originally thought safelight was doing a install. The email I have from my insurance agent says safelite solution services are providing the service, but the actual service is being done by Allstar/windshield center. The name of the facility where I'm bringing the truck is call Allstar.

Some how my new Suburban had a small nick in the windshield so the dealer replaced it and you can't tell a thing!
