Well I'm finally looking for a new motor for the tahoe. Ive done some research and searched the forum but from I havent seen many TBI threads. I have a 1995 2 dr tahoe 5.7 4x4 with 186,*** on the motor now. I dont want anything big or a rebuild. Probably just looking at a straight swap, seen online the stock 350 long blocks for $1800. Or is there a better setup, but using the same 350 block just more beefier then stock replacement?

I have a 95 Tahoe ... I swapped on Vortec heads, you can step up to a roller cam as well. You will need a chip either way ... having a good exhaust and upgraded intake will help those mods too.

i read about people installing vortec heads. Is there any place that you can purchase the long block with the vortec heads already installed?

Summit, Jegs, SDPC ... lots of places. Look for a 96 and up Vortec long block.

Get a Jasper motor, they have a better warranty, only place I know that will tow you if the motor breaks. And I think your motor already has Vortec heads. They are iron heads not the aluminum or Fast Burn design. Vortec heads have been used since 1987. As far as the roller, GM sells an aftermatket cam lifter and retainer kit through GMPP. Maybe put the stamped steel 1.6 roller rockers on.

You need to check your details, Vortec V8 heads came out on the 1996 Trucks, not 87. He has a 95, they are for sure not Vortecs from the factory, unless someone changed them before and it takes some work to get right, I know I did it.

I know this is an older post, but the OP can always upgrade to a 383 crate (more than $1800, but the extra TQ/HP is always nice). Just swap over the top end and accessories, and you're back in business - that said, a custom tune will optimize your performance.
