Middle Chrome Piece on Liftgate of Denali - is it a cover? nothing under?

I was hoping it would be a simple removal similar to basic badge removal except with that whole chrome cap piece.

Following up on this with my findings.

There are actually several liftgates made by GM:
one for the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Yukon XL that has a fixed upper (where the logo is):

and one for the denali that has holes in the same area:

My solution to blacking out (color matching) the chrome strip on the denali was to go ahead and order #3 in the photo above (part 22834033) and have it prepped/painted and then take the vehicle to the dealership and have the strip swapped out.


Really annoyed that GM started adding this chrome strip "applique" to the liftgates - I believe they started doing it in the late model versions of the 07-14 body styles... thought it was a little much there especially. I like it clean...

If I'm wrong about any of the above please lmk.
