So recently I have been driven to the point of never owning another GM again.
My 2010 Yukon started having paint chip off the liftgate at the bottom right corner of the camera housing. It was brought to the dealerships (Pointe GMC in Pennsgrove NJ) attention when the truck had approx 24000 mikes on it. The dealer deemed it a loose applique that needed to be replaced and then paintwork to follow. I was told and given paperwork to prove the part would be ordered then I'd be called to have it repaired. Well here's where I messed up. Like any father of two, sole bread winner, son of a very sick father, and mother in law I forgot and they never called. When I finally got back around to it was after 36000 miles and the warranty had expired. I took it back to the dealer where they say called GM and began to tell me GM said to get my own estimate and they'd possibly fix it based on cost. At this point I was beat down and let it sit for a few months. I decided yo take it straight to GMs customer service. After explaining I had owned a minimum of 10 GM cars since 1994. Four of which had been new since 2003. A Tahoe, Denali, Colorado, and the present 2010 Yukon. At this point they got the dealership to fix it. Now mind you this was nothing I did it just rattled loose and began chipping paint at less than 24,000 miles. So the fix comes and I will say I am picky as I believe it should be fixed like new since it was a problem from GM. Not to mention I'm particular to begin with. Well needless to say the repair was typical of people who do not care about customers. There wrote and are tape lines at the edges of the camera cover applique. Then to top it off the corner where paint was chipping had paint flashed around cover. So just taking a finger nail I could pull off the excess which peeled the paint off the repair. I took it back and explained this was not put back to its original form and was now worse than before. I have tried everything From speaking with the dealership to customer service and they now will not even speak to me. This outrageous for someone who bought approx $150k in cars from them in less than 9 years.

GM main customer service and district specialist both involved. While they pretended to care they got me nowhere.

Hopefully the gm customer service guy on this forum will chime in but I'm not sure how much that will help. I think a lot depends on the dealership. Many people have cracked dashboards and have had them replaced for free after the warranty expired (me being one of them), while some have to pay a deductible (at minimum). GM is supposed to be focused on loyal customers, so I would assume that you can get this taken care of IF you speak to the right person.

Good luck

I hate to break it to those that think that there will be a GM rep to help when they really need them, but that is simply not the case if you are looking for anything more substantial than the odd lock actuator, if that. The GMCS on all these forums are a PR exercise mostly for show. God forbid you're in a situation needing real help, they will impede your progress by offering help and then disappearing, thus having lost you even more time and energy than you were already losing.

GM makes some great products, but even great products eventually fail. When they do, bypass GMCS on any forum and deal with it as best you can on your own.

Honestly.... have they helped anyone here?

When my dashboard cracked, the gm customer service guy put me in touch with someone, who attempted to take care of it for me. However, my dealership just fixed it for free and didn't seem to want to bother with the gm rep. However, the gm rep did call me about every other day to see if I got my issue resolved. Take it for what it's worth but at least they answered and returned my calls.

This sounds like a dealer issue not a GM issue. Must not be a very reputable dealer. I work for one of the largest in the country, in the body shop, and that is definitely not how we would handle that situation. The lift gate would be torn down if necessary and the piece is always painted off the truck. I do know dealers that cut corners like that, but if its a dealer like ours, which has expectations when you're one of the largest, you can't do that. Bring it back. 9 out of 10 body shops guarantee their work for lifetime. Get it fixed again.

The body shop guy said in front of the gm service manager that this was caused directly by the factory improperly installing the camera cover appliqué. The gm service manager heard it and relayed it to The gm service reps. Their answer is they can't help me any longer. Also he lied and said it was fixed properly. Tape lines are proper?
No wonder gm has issues. The answer is simple fix the liftgate the properly $1500 to $2000 and I end up buying another gm. They win considering the truck I had my eye on was a loaded gm 2500 diesel. 55-60k.

I threw out the case # but i think i have a VM with ut saved. The district rep was a girl named Alex.

Tape lines around the applique - no. Tapeline at the back glass - that would be acceptable to any body shop. Have you tried taking it to another GM dealer that has a body shop and get their input? I dont know where you live, but another dealer may take this as a way to win you back with outstanding service.

Agreed about tape lines. However actually had enough if a line that I got my finger nail under it and paint chipped off at the same corner it had originally started. The body shop owner told me I shouldn't have put my finger nail there and of course that chipped it. LOL not acceptable. He yelled I yelled. Body shop bridge burnt, gladly.

Louis I can't send pms yet.
