Locking gas cap for our hos

Does anyone have a part number or know if gm put out a locking gas cap for our hos and burbs? Got my truck back from mechanic and its about half a tank lower then when I brought it to them and no they didnt drive it.

Is it gm or aftermarket? Have you ever got any lights on the dash from the cap? Do you have a link or part number?

I think I just picked mine up from O'Reilly's...no part number, I just told them what I had and wanted and they looked it up and grabbed it for me. If I remember I'll go take a look at it later and see if I can find a number for you.

I also had a number of mystery half-tanks of gas disappearing. Not having a garage, I just locked it up. It was easy for anyone to get into.

Oh, and I've never had a light. Why would it make a light go off?

Sometimes you can get a check engine light when the gas cap isnt tightened or sometimes aftermarket caps do it. Can you still use the cord that keeps the cap attached to the truck or did you have to give that up? I would love if you could get a part number.

Just have a loose cap now, no cord. That is kind of annoying but would be really easy to MacGyver a fix for if I ever thought about it.

That's actually pretty cool. I also just thought it was a lame cosmetic thing, but knowing it's lockable changes that perspective a lot.

If you're worried about a shop siphoning gas, A locking gas cap won't do you any good. When I siphoned my tank(and most others). It's done from the tube that runs down to the gas tank. It takes all of 5 minutes and a flat head screw driver. Just an FYI.
Unless you just like the look of the locking gas door.

The key here is making it harder for the person. He might not do it if hes gotta do something other then just swing open the door and start siphoning. And im definatly not worried that my mechanics do it. After all I dont just let anybody touch my truck, and definatly not someone that would take gas from my tank lol. Im worried about the parking lot thieves.
