kinda new have an alarm question

hey guys first off id like to say this is an awesome forum and i have already gained a ton of new ideas from all of the threads here i recently bought a 2001 yukon slt and i think it has a factory alarm because if i push the lock button on the key fob twice it honks the horn. but i cant get the alarm to trigger ive tried to manually unlock and open the doors from inside while the alarm should be armed and nothing triggers it i want to put my system i have laying around in but if i have no form of security it will be gone in a week.. had it happen twice to me. so my question is does anyone know any common problems with the factory alarms that i could do some troubleshooting on and maybe fix it until i have money for an upgraded alarm. and does this truck even have an alarm or is the horn just to tell you its locked for sure? ive searched around but havent found much hopefully this is in the right section and thanks for any advice just wanna get some bump again til i can get the right system in here.

probably just your horn. Does your dash have a anti theft light that comes on when you lock your doors. If it does you have to wait till it goes off. If you reach in thru the window manually open the door should set off your horn. But either way factory alarms suck!. You are better getting after market with shock sensor, glass breakage, ignition kill etc.

well when i get in the truck it flashes security at me but no matter what i do i cant get it to go off i have locked and alarmed from inside the truck then unlocked it with my hand and opened the door and got nothing i just assumed it didnt work.. i know it sucks but since im still paying on the truck i dont wanna buy extras til the title is in my name and i have no more payments lol this is the first thing i have ever financed and dont wanna lose it so i can have a sweet alarm and system.

Will it should go off after about 30 seconds. I understand your thought about money. However an alarm is not going to stop anyone but it is a deterent against lil Chetheads. It is worth the money to invest in. I had my back window busted out in Corpus. So privacy glass with defroster cost me a lil over 500.00 then I put back my 5% limo back over the privacy glass so a lil more. It would have been cheaper to have the alarm. Well almost my alarm cost me in the 7's

oh i know i will get it just not a good time now.. i know all about the importance of an alarm my last car was a boosted honda civic si i was paranoid every day owning that thing. i plan on getting another two way pager alarm my last one was a clifford with lcd screen cost about 700 for install on my civic what are you guys running on your tahoes/yukons that works good?

alright nevermind i got it to work i just wasnt being patient and waiting long enough to open the door haha.. the horn isnt very loud though and with no led blinking in the car i have a feeling id come out to a smashed window anyways i think ill just wait it out til i can get a good alarm with pager so maybe i can catch someone in the act if they try to steal anything out of it.
