Yeah, it does suck to get old. And, it really sucks when you get too old to do things that you love to do. But, that's life.

I got too old to do deep decompression wreck diving decades ago, but I still have all of my dive equipment. It's still too hard to let go of it, even though I know that I'll never use them again. @OR VietVet , good for you to face this evolution. It may give me the incentive to do what I need to do.
Just remember like in work life, retirement life has its seasons. When you are young retired you still have the energy to do things, but you have the freedom not to HAVE to do them. Then five to eight years go by and you're like, well I know how to do this, but I don't really have the moxie to want to do it anymore. So, you do a few things yourself but pay for a few more things. As you get into the latter part, you miss all the things that you kind of know how to do but it's just not in the cards to do them anymore. Enjoy each season and remember that no matter what you can look back and say you did it all and can prove it. Make memories with friends and family and not buying more stuff...
Retirement isn't about big portfolio numbers..... retirement is about freedom. Freedom to spend your days any way you want, doing something or nothing has equal value. No part time gigs for me..... Part of the freedom is not being committed to anything. Every day I get up and do what I want to do and that can be a whole lot, and it can be not much and both have great value for me. every day alive is a great day....

Correct but at this point I still WANT to do it. It's when I CAN'T do it, that it will hit me. Right now will be lighter duty stuff and as much of my own as I can. Thankfully, I have shops that know me and will allow me bringing my own parts and still give me a labor warranty. The day will come when I say, "screw it". Not quite there yet and I have so many tools that are gathering dust.
