His company Speediagnostix.com does a much more thorough and concise oil sample testing. Check out his web site.

He was involved with Valvoline during the Restore & Protect development.

I'm intrigued by the whole Valvoline Restore and Protect thing. At first I thought this guy was just a shill for Valvoline but he seems to be trying really hard to distance himself from those rumors lately. Plus, everywhere you go online (theres a great thread over on Bob Is the Oil Guy) people are loudly singing the praises of R&P.

One of the first things I did when I bought this Tahoe is drain what was in it and pour in fresh R&P 5W-30 and a Wix filter. I ran R&P exclusively on my last vehicle, a Jeep with the Pentastar V6 to try to avoid cam follower failure.

My theory is the R&P will help clean up the varnish and keep the lifters in this 5.3 from doing any bad things, even though the AFM is tuned out. It seems to be doing wonders for many, many people. Logically speaking, it should be very helpful for keeping AFM 5.3's alive by cleaning out the sludge and vanish that contributes to lifters sticking.

What is your oil change time/mileage interval?

4000 miles give or take 500.

My problem is I only put about 600 miles a month on so it takes me six months to hit that. With my previous vehicle (the Jeep) I usually did oil changes twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring.

With the R&P and this Tahoe, I may shorten that up a little at least in the short term while I see what this stuff does. There's a lot more to "clean up" in this truck, my Jeep was young.

Been using Valvoline Restore & Protect in my '02 Tahoe for about a year. After just two oil changes, my mech asked if I'd bought a new dipstick.
I stick with 3000-3500 mile oil changes. Wonder how long it'll take to clean the valvecovers ...

Yea, change the Valvoline R&P at 3k to 4k miles or 4 months, whichever comes first and watch the dipstick to see the old oil before drain and then compare to the next one.

Plus, use a good quality filter. I prefer WIX Extreme filters but other members/people have their favorites.
