This last fall I discovered a crack in the radiator on my 2006 Yukon Denali. I also found the pump leaking so I replaced that too. The previous owner was not using coolant, just water, so I had not been smelling the leaks. Draining and replacing the water with coolant combined with the dropping temperatures here in Minnesota quickly made the leaks apparent.

When I looked up replacement radiators I found the 1" thick core being used on both the 5.3L and the 6.0L. I thought that kind of odd but was short on time to fix this so got a cheap replacement. When I pulled the old one I found it had a 1-1/4" thick core. The new one fit fine and I have had no overheating issues over the winter but I am wondering about this summer. I occasionally pull a trailer and am worried that hot weather and a load may be too much for the 1" core.

The part number on my original GM was 10387446. That comes up as being superseded and is now number GM 20935856 which has a 2-3/16" thick core and is 19-7/16" tall. I am little worried that going too thick could cause it to run too cool under normal conditions particularly in the winter. I happened to look at a Cert-i-fit catalog and see number 22840115 listed as a replacement. This one has a 1-1/4" core, but is a little shorter. All of these have 34" width cores.

Has anybody had any experience with or opinions on any of these radiators ? If I need to, I want to get something ordered up for spring.

The computer has a lot more input on temperature control than does the size of the radiator nowadays. Double check your numbers at GM Parts Direct with your VIN and if it were mine and that thick one was the latest and greatest, I'd get that one.
