I had a '90 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the glass that rolled down into the tailgate, no crank just motor. Notoriously problematic. I took it apart and put it back together at least three times, replacing various parts. The last straw was when it failed on a fishing trip, 17 miles down a dusty gravel road. The dust was routed directly into the cab from the back. I never did get it cleaned back up to what it was before. I'll take the glass lift on my Yukon any day.

When I was younger my parents had a mid to late 70's Ford Country Squire station wagon that had an electric window in the tailgate that rolled down into it. The tailgate could either swing open like a door or drop down like a truck tailgate. Never had any problems with it, and it actually came in handy.

We would go to the drive-in and back into the spot and drop the tailgate and lay in the back and watch the movie
