HU Illumination Wire

I replaced my factory navigation with a Pioneer AVIC-D3. I do not have the illumination wire from the HU connected so the screen is crazy bright at night. On the factory unit when the headlights would come on the screen would turn to "night" mode by dimming and making the map background black instead of white. Will I get the same results by connecting the orange illumination wire on the head unit to the brown dimmer wire in the harness or will this just cause the HU to dim with my dimmer switch?

So I went ahead and connected the brown dimmer wire from the stock harness to the orange illumination wire from the HU. It works exactly how I wanted it to.
