I have an increasing level of sound coming from this tiny overhead fan, and I think that it is time to remove and inspect it. I want to perform this operation without breaking anything.

Please give me some guidance on how to properly perform this operation.

Thank you.

Use a clean rag to pry against and use a thin clip pry tool and work around the perimeter and pry the piece out. You can see/feel the sweet spots that are prying out easily instead of fighting you. After cover comes off, have to get to edge of the headliner. The first one is for an 07.

when I have replaced mine I pulled the headliner down just enough to reach in right there to the left of it so I could see where the clips are and kind of approached it from above & below in order to prevent breaking anything or damaging the headliner around it. the headliner just pulls down rather easily from the left edge

Yes, I replaced it on my 06 Suburban. I wedged a piece of 2x4 in there to help hold the headliner down, sort of like "third hand" while I used a pick tool to lift the tab on the wiring plug...

Get the short ones and long ones and the curved end spade ones for picking at seals.

I picked up a few sets of picks at Harbor Freight.

I also tried spraying some canned air up into the fan housing, and the noise abated. I believe that this is most likely a temporary fix, so I'll keep monitoring it.

Definitely recommend approaching from the top of the headliner. Those clips are fragile. Also best to disassemble and clean it. The cleaning made it much quieter. It's amazing how much crud gets in those things. I swapped the rear one in my truck to the front as it seemed like it was a little bit quieter.
