Most of time I will drill a new hole in the firewall and use a rubber grommet, especially for 4ga and larger.
When adding any decently powered amp, you should always at minimal upgrade the ground cable from the battery.

How does that help him?

As far as the Big 3, why not. It can't hurt anything. Like JK said, just find somewhere and drill a new hole and plug it properly.

There is a little piece of plastic on the inside, next to the brake pedal, where the clutch pedal gets installed for manual trans vehicles. It is pre-cut and has a tab you can grab to remove it. It's where I always drill for new power cable
