Ok, so I am upgrading my HID's to higher wattage.

So far the only difference between 35-55 watt setups that I have seen is the ballast.

My question is there a diff between a 25,35,55watt and 100watt hid bulb?
My 35 and 55 watt bulbs are identical.

Reason I ask, is HIDGeeks sells 100watt kits but only with 5k and higher kelvin. So I was thinkin order a set of 4500's from DDM and plugem into the 100watt ballasts.. While giving the bulbs from HIGgeeks to a friend for 12.50 which will cover my cost from DDM.
Yess I know 5k at 55watt and higher will wash out to pure white, but I can still see a hint of blue and I dont want that. He likes blue.

I am replacing my 55's to 100's in my fogs and movin the 55's to my lows to replace the 35's and ballasts alrdy there.
I have lost 2 bulbs in a month on my passenger side, think my ballast is going bad. I dont feel like waiting for 3 months for DDM to check and send replacements, for 30$ ill order new set and have them in 4 days.

So, what you guys thik about the bulb question.

I don't know if this is a universal answer, but I do know that there are specifically designed bulbs for the higher wattages. You can tell almost 100% if they have a ceramic base, rather than metal. That also might give you a good idea on how hot they can get....lol.

I wouldn't run a standard HID bulb in a 70w or more system. It'll probably work, but could also blow up. :D

Here's a comparison shot, with standard on the left and 70w on right:

You might watch out for your fog lights as well. You dont want to melt your fog light housings with those hott ass 100 watts.

With a ceramic base those things are gonna get way hot. Probably close to what a HQI style metal halide gets.

I just gotta ask...what's the general need for anything over 55w? 55w HID's are crazy bright...I gotta imagine any brighter & you'll just get pulled over because...lol...

Yeah, if anyone's fogs can take the heat, it's his. My OEM plastic lenses are crisping in the middle with 55w HID's, and I don't even run them very often. Eventually I'll be following his lead and getting the metal/glass retrofit.

Ok guys I have a delima.
The HID kit that I want from HIGgeeks only comes in a few Kelvin selctions and as you guys know I am a huge fan of 4500k.

The kit I want is 100watts, But I cannot find it in 4500k.
So my question to you guys is, Do you guys think the 6k bulb at 100watts will wash out enough to be a VERY close match to a 55watt 4500k kit?

Or do any of you know where to get a 100watt 4500k kit?

Gah! thats no good. But I have read numerous posts about DDM being the same way.

I been google searching for almost a hour now, trying to find the bulbs I want, Seems to be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Good dependable 100watt ballasts, 4500k ceramic base bulbs.
Wow, what a pain in muh butt! LOL
