HID ballast problem?

Ok so I've had my HID lows in for about a month or two now. I have the relay harness and everything on the kit. My problem is that sometimes on start up the passenger side light won't come on until I turn the lights on and off. But today when I was driving down the highway, I noticed that my passenger light wasn't on and It wouldn't come on even after I tried turning the lights on and off. So do I need a new ballast or what? The light isn't the problem because I went out later and it worked fine.

I imagine this is some sort of ddm or ebay kit?

Could be anything ... bad bulb, poorly rebased bulb, faulty harness/ballast.
All these kits are poorly manufactured with poor quality control on electronic devices which require the highest degree of such. That's why they are so cheap.

Or it could be the universe trying to give you a hint not to stick PnP kits in your reflector housings.

Switch your bulb to the other side (or ballast) and see if the problem follows it and you'll know what's faulty. From there you can try DDM's ridiculous exchange policy or just buy whatever piece of the kit you need.

As for a PnP kit in a non projector housing, I've done it for years, never been flashed, and no one has ever had an issue with it, including me when i meet a kit I installed on the road. Just aim them correctly and there isn't an issue.

I'm too old to have this convo yet again ...

Glaring is not the same as having your high beams on ... you don't get flashed for it, you're just annoying and discourteous to oncoming traffic.

Glaring is not the same as having your high beams on ... you don't get flashed for it, you're just annoying and discourteous to oncoming traffic.

Truth. 3 trucks passed me with that setup and although I didn't flash them I still get annoyed and think "what a dick" when it happens.

I had a DDM tuning HID kit and both the bulb and ballast went out. ****** quality control... took them out and just went with the top of the line Silverstar bulbs until I can afford a proper retrofit with projectors/HID's.

It's a hit or miss deal with DDM. Their kits can be good or bad. More than likely, your ballast failed due to the entry lighting setting (lights come on when you open the doors with the remote in a dark area).
That feature should always be disabled with aftermarket HIDs because it will cause premature failure due to starting, then recycling off and back on when you start the car.
Buy HIDs with good quality and reviews. DDM use to have better kits (back in 07/08), then as their name grew they started selling cheaper products to keep up with demand and maximize profit.

What do those look like?

I turned that feature off the day that I installed them. I hate that they changed the quality. I was gonna recommend these to my friend with a avalanche until the ballast started having problems.
cancelers can fix that.

When I bought my xl I installed hids and add the relay harness and one would shut off and also flicker. So I search online and came across the hid cancellers, installed and to this day my hids have not flickered or shut off.

I messed around with many HID kits over the years but I have never had a ballast go. It's almost always to bulb. Especially with the cheaper kits. Even if it is intermitant or it works on one side and not the other. I get another set of bulbs and the problem is gone. Just sharing my own experiences.

Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna switch some stuff around today after I finish work and hopefully I can find the problem.
