Headlight/DRL question on an '05

My daughters boyfriend has an '05 Silverado. When he unlocks the doors with the keyless entry the DRL's come on, but as soon as he turns the key, the DRL's go off and the headlights come on. The DRL's are never on when it runs, just the headlights. Doesn't make sense to have DRL's if they aren't on in the daytime when you're running. Ideas?

Try looking when you have the vehicle in drive, not trying to be a smart ass, but the circuit is not completed without it being in drive

No, that's fine, I appreciate any feedback. He'll be back tomorrow, I'll look, but I really doubt it's that. Even in the brightest daylight, as soon as he turns the key the DRL's go out and the headlights come on.

Maybe a bad light sensor on the dash? At first I was thinkin something with the switches, but maybe the sensor is the place to start?

Yeah, it was the daylight sensor. I asked him and he said there was just a hole in the dash, been there since he found it. I guess it got pushed down so he was able to just push it back up through the hole and now the lights work fine
