Has GM fixed the buffeting and vibration issues?

I'm planning on purchasing a Yukon in the near future although I may wait until the fall when the 2018's come out and maybe buy a 2017 at that time. After lurking around this site for the past year or so, and reading about the vibration and buffeting issues, I'm wondering if GM has finally corrected these issues as its been 3 years since the redesign. Anyone know the answer? My wife says I should look at other trucks in this class if they haven't been fixed but I have my heart set on a Yukon. Thanks in advance for your response.

I don't think there have been any changes to the design that were aimed at eliminating the issue but I could be wrong.

They are onto the next generation (due out in '19). Apparently they will have a completely revised suspension.

The 2018 yukon will be 'refreshed' and may even (FINALLY) get the 8 speed tranny that only the Denali and esky have today.

Where did you hear the 2018 will be refreshed? It'd be nice if at least the SLT model came with HIDs and the 8 speed standard, it's borderline criminal that it doesn't at that price point.

Google "2018 yukon refresh" and a lot of stuff should come up

And yes, agree. They're actually saying it might go straight to a 10 speed.

There have been tweaks through the three model years aimed at minimizing the buffeting/booming. Ive read about a different adhesive or adhesion technique for the roof bows, some type of change in the rear hatch seal, and new body mounts starting in the 2017s.

Best bet is a very thorough test drive.

My 2016 doesn't have any of the issues (none yet at least with 12k miles) but many of the 16's I test drove did. Test driving is important for sure.

We just bought a 2017 some weeks ago and if it's there, it hasn't been enough for me to notice it (or my friends and family members that have test driven it either).

Love the ride/power. No complaints so far other than the rear entertainment headphones are not working but dealer is now sending us another pair for free so we'll see.

I wouldn't be too hung on on a new redesign anf as history proves it, you NEVER ever wanna become a guinea pig on a new model as it always takes manufacturers 2nd/3rd year revision before ironing out any redesign issues that usually comes up during the 1st year.

Your best bet is always with the 2nd/3rd year iterations.

I read it on the other forum. It was posted by a dealer employee. I don't know if it is a different part number than the '15 and '16 body mounts, but it makes sense that they would have tried a modified design.

Booming and vibration occurred on models in the first and second model year (at the least). I would also not call either of those issues common. GM did an incredibly high number of buy backs on the suvs and pickups during these model years.

Many of us have driven many, many trucks and experienced the issue in all of them, so I would have to disagree and say it's a very common issue. I had planned on trading-in our 15 two different times on a 16 until I did several test drives.

We agree. I wasn't clear.

I was making the point that the issues commonly seen in the TAHOE/YUKON/ESKY are not generally common issues found in other truck makes.

This isn't just GM 'working out common first year bugs'. It's a pervasive flaw/issue that led to bad press and high buyback rates.

I, so far, have been lucky with my mid 16 build. But I drove many 16's that vibrated and boomed. Test driving is crazy important. Especially going >75

Do you think that some of these issues reveal personal sensitivities by a significant number of people to these vibrations? Do others with you (without a interest in making money on closing a deal or limiting responsibility to repair a problem) observe what you have observed?

The vibration is obvious and undeniable when it happens. But many times you need to be over 75 to have it be obvious to everyone.

Booming and pressure is obvious but I do think some people experience it worse than others.

"My 2017 Yukon has vibration & buffeting. It starts at 48 mph up to about 60 mph. It actually makes me carsick. The dealer tried a few things, but it's still there. He's ordering new tires & plans on doing something with the suspension. He'll be doing the next step in a few weeks."

That's disheartening. I wonder how many people will decide to go to a Traverse in the coming years because of the concern of buying a 60K+ lemon.

Got it. Had one opportunity to drive a rented Yukon last year out of Baltimore. A mixture of highway and local driving in a number of states. Didn't detect the pressure or vibrations, but far too many describe them to jump in without a thorough test drive when buying.
