I have an 05 Yukon Denali and the top of the steering wheel is fizzling out pretty quick. I have wanted to get a wood rimmed steering wheel in from an Escalade but they are usually picked pretty quick at the junk yard. Today I found a nice one from a Buick Rainer, GMT360.

Has anyone swapped a wheel from these and put in an gmt800? I'm getting conflicting information online, but it seems like they switch right over. I've read a few places that the splines are different but also people saying they have done it

As far as I know, the GMT360 wheels will fit the 03-06 (and 07 classic) GMT800s. It will not fit the 00-02 800s due to different steering shaft splines. So the 360 wheel should fit your Yukon since it's an 05.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm going to go for it and try to sand it down and color match the wood grain and interior colors. Something similar to this from @adventurenali92.

Funny that you mention my steering wheel Haha. That steering wheel in the photo is just now starting to show leather wearing off. Lasted a lot longer than I thought it would! But it’s pretty easy to do!

I pulled a steering wheel from an envoy Denali last summer in one of my local junkyards, and it looks exactly like the steering wheel that came in the 2004-2006 platinum edition trim Escalade ESV. Black leather, wood grain, and little chrome rings in between the ends of the wood grain grips and the leather portion. I also think the first woodgrain wheel I played with was also out of a Rainer, like the one in your original post. And I know that one fit into my 2006 XL Denali so I think you’re good to go on fitment. Should bolt right up. I haven’t test fitted the envoy Denali wheel I have, but I’d imagine it’ll fit in no problem. I have grips painted in a really nice dark metallic flake black paint that I had left over from another project. And then I have some fresh leather dye kit from a company called leather world technologies. Gotta see if the tan comes out as a good color match to the rest of my interior. That last wheel I did came out a tad bit lighter than the rest of my interior. More like the cashmere interior option in the GMT900 Denali, in my opinion. But I still liked the color enough to roll with it.

I think those Envoy/Escalade steering wheels look great. I haven't found one yet but now that I know how to get them off quickly, I'll be jumping in those quick if I find one. Good luck with the project! Shoot a picture over when it's done.

Ill probably have some questions for you when I'm about to start sanding and staining the leather. Right now I'm sanding down to the wood and am going to try to match the Denali grey color the best I can. I'm sanding with 120 to get the finish off and then 150 to 220. Then try the stain.
