gear selector plate keeps breaking

I have a 98 hoe and it keeps breaking the plate that the gear selector goes into. Its also what the shift linkage connects to. I've replaced it 3 rimes in two months this time the plate didn't even last a day. I'm not rough with the shifter. Why does this keep happening? Am i over tightening it ? I just tighten the bolts till there a quarter turn past snug.

What do you mean "plate". How about the alignment of it as it moves?

Tighten to 89 inch-pounds and who is making these. Also make sure that whatever surface it mounts to make sure that if any bolt goes into a different component on the column make sure they are not loose or out of alignment as well.

Factor been pulling them at the pick-a-part. And I'll check everything again
