Greetings, new user here. I am thinking about buying a new Tahoe, but I am unsure if it will fit through my 8 foot wide garage door. I've searched the internet with three AI chatbots and still don't have an absolutely definitive answer. I would really appreciate hearing from a fellow user/users who actually parks (or was unable to park) a current generation Tahoe through a garage door measuring exactly 96 inches wide. Interior dimensions of the garage are not an issue. I apologize in advance if this question has been discussed here before, but I just can't find it. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

You should be OK. Even with the mirrors in the operating position, the total width is less than 8 feet.

----------

The 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe has an overall length of 211.3 inches, a width of 81.0 inches (without mirrors), and a height ranging from 75.8 to 76.3 inches depending on the trim level. The wheelbase is 120.9 inches.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Length: 211.3 inches
  • Width (without mirrors): 81.0 inches
  • Height (LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, High Country): 75.8-76.3 inches
  • Wheelbase: 120.9 inches

I bought a new 2024 Tahoe Premier 4WD.

If I fold the power mirrors, the vehicle will fit through the 8-foot wide garage door opening at my house. The door is also 8-foot high. The vehicle will not fit with the mirrors extended.

The Suburban, with mirrors extended, won't fit in an 8' opening? I thought anything wider than 8' had to have clearance lights like the Raptor, dually pick up trucks and the rear steer GM pick ups from the early 2000's.

Thank you, that's what I was hoping. One more question - is it easy enough to park in the garage by simply retracting the mirrors or so annoying that you often leave the vehicle outside?

Based on the dimensions that Joseph posted (above), I'm guessing the Suburban, with mirrors extended, is probably just under 96 inches wide but so close that you would not want to squeeze through a 96" door.

I have had the current house for five years. Prior to buying the Tahoe, I had a 2015 Expedition Limited - also with power-fold mirrors. Very similar in size to the Tahoe.

I always parked the Expedition, and now the Tahoe, in the 8-foot wide garage daily. I only leave it out if I intend to reuse the vehicle soon after parking it. I always pull forward into the garage, and do not back in. The Expedition and the Tahoe have front parking sensors, which help.

I take my time, line up the vehicle, and have never had an issue. You MUST make yourself ensure the mirrors are folded before pulling in, and do not unfold them in the garage.

One suggestion if you ever have a house built. My wife and I had the current one built and it has a 16-foot garage door and an 8-foot garage door (3-car garage). I asked the builder about a higher garage door and they offered 8-foot high doors, at a slight extra cost (so my open hatch would not hit the garage door bottom). I had the builder build the garage (inside) with an extra four foot depth and an extra four foot width.

Later I learned there was a 9-foot wide (8-foot high) garage door available, but the builder did not tell me about it and I did not know to inquire. I’m still mad at the builder for not telling me, as I asked about the higher garage doors and told him that I had a large SUV.

It will fit with mirrors extended but I fold them anyway. On a previously owned Lexus LX 570 I hit the mirror when exiting so folding them is habit. (Also if someone else is driving they may not be as careful as me), Reflex like turning off Auto Stop button when starting.

I suppose that might depend on you. My question before getting my Denali was height. I have a two car double door garage, so width, while still a concern, was less of an issue. As it was, I measured height and width and both were fine. I park in the garage with another vehicle, however, so still retract my mirrors when I pull pst the threshold as I keep tight to the passenger side and back in. Th Denali is my daily driver and I have never left it outside. I consistently back it into the garage everytime it comes out. That said, I used to work on buses and learned to backup extended length vehicles with mirrors long before cameras were even a thing. So backing the Denali up is comfortable for me. I use my mirrors and only use the rear camera for clearance at the back (because length is tight for me).

I have 2025 Yukon Denali. I too had concerns prior to purchase. Door opening is 8'6". I did 2 things...I turned off rear sensors and rear autobrake and I bought rubber chocks that are about 18" wide from Amazon. Each time I back in I take an extra 10 seconds to make sure that I am lined up using outside mirrors and checking back up camera on the dash. I back the car in without the mirrors retracted until I feel the chocks then I ease it forward by 1". So far...NP.

The former owner had 10' x 8' garage doors installed. In the 30 years we've been here, I've had to replace openers three times. I had to buy an extension kit, since most openers are for 7' doors.

When we had a pole barn built, I requested a 16' x 8' door (zoning said 8' maximum) A 16' x 9' door was sent. I called the inspector and he said just install it and don't worry about it. That was 27 years ago.

The one-car portion of the garage is to the right of the two-car portion. Occupants of my Tahoe must get out of the vehicle on the left side.

For someone to get in or out of the Tahoe’s right front, the vehicle must be out of the garage.

My wife parks her car in the two-car portion, which gives us plenty of room to move around (and it is closest to the home entry door from the garage).

Parking spaces are 9’ wide. All garage doors should be 9’ or 18’ wide. 7’ tall will work unless you have some kind of lift.

I have a 2 1/2 car garage….. I back in, close to the wall, using a ‘mark’ on the back wall as a target for my right-side mirror.
I have a tire-stop, since the garage door is 5 inches clearance to the front bumper.
I close the mirrors so we don’t bump into it walking between ...

Our Infiniti has plenty of space, to park next to it.

Official sources like Chevrolet provide only the body width without mirrors, which for the 2025 Tahoe is 81.0 in (2058 mm).

However, we can make an estimated approximation based on community measurements of similar full-size SUVs: (vehicle widths vary due to exterior mirror sizes.)

From a Q&A forum (VehicleHistory.com), one user reports for the “newest generation” of Chevy Tahoe:
  • Width with mirrors folded outward: approximately 90 to 96 inches
  • Width with mirrors folded in: around 80.5 inches

Given that the 2025 Tahoe’s body width is 81 inches, this suggests a similar pattern likely applies.

I backed out of a one-car garage door ( my friend’s house had 3 doors )…...
I was nervous backing out….. The mirrors had to be retracted… I think, his Ferrari was about the same width as my Yukon…
But it was difficult to ‘view’ to the rear…..
