When I take the filter off, (under driver side frame rail, by ABS comp.), will the tank just drain right out, or is there some kind of check valve in there?

Only a small amount of fuel will come out. I usually leave the truck running and pull the fuel pump fuse, or let it sit with the cap off for a bit. Cutting power to the pump is the best option if you don't enjoy fuel to the face.

Ya, x2 on pulling the pump fuse while runningI pulled mine with a big towel so gas wouldn't get everywhere - tossed the towel. More comes out than you think....I kinda got high under the truck LOL!

They key to SFT (start first time) is to turn the key to run, listen for the pump that should come on and prime the line. Don't start it. Turn it back off and repeat 2x. Then start. Presto.
