Well, it looks like the entire tailgate is different from a Yukon too, low wiper, etc.

Upgrade to an old style lift gate with the wiper in plain sight as opposed to hidden under the brow at the top? That’s a downgrade
Hard to tell, but it looks like a GMT900, which has the wiper at the bottom, so not a 'downgrade.' There is a company that makes a kit to install K2XX-style Escalade tall tail lights into a GMT900. That's probably what we're seeing in OP's pic.

I've actually contemplated doing that on my Suburban.

Aha. I don’t own a NNBS and for some reason I believed the OP that the wiper wasn’t supposed to be at the bottom instead of at the top, hidden under the brow. But after looking at stock photos I see it’s just like the one on the picture so yes you’re right, it’s just the Esky tail lights.
