Wasn't too bad today but would love to take a break from these temps and drive down 95. Once we're able to head down I'll let you know. @Fosscore

You florida guys have it great. Car weather all year round.

In SWFL for the weekend and I'm amazed at how many tricked out trucks, bikes and cars there are. Car culture isn't big near me, but I haven't seen a stock vehicle since I hit the fl border.

Yeah the weather is pretty killer year round. Summer is brutal hot, but the "winters" and the beach make it worth it. There are sweet rides from supercars to old school rides all the time. I see new stuff every day I drive around town.

Good you could make it down this way and get out of that cold stuff up north. Enjoy! @05alive

Finally got around to painting my rear bumper pads again. I did this about a year ago, but then the paint started to flake a bit. Could have been a bit of bad prep and/or a combination of UV as well. Looks much better, even though it is the textured black plastic (the only parts that are not actually color matched).

And unfortunately while working on the Suburban this morning, a gust of wind came thru my carport and swung the wooden gate open too far and smacked the right front wheel well lip and left me a new MF'n small ding. I buffed out the white paint transfer and thankfully it didn't do anything to my paint. Nothing I could do and no one to blame but myself, so I cussed it all day while doing my truck projects. Still shaking my head. Grand scheme it could be something much worse, but not good for OCD!

On a good note...that ding is in the best ideal spot to be pulled out. could have certainly been worse like a in the middle of the door or rear qp.

The rear bumper looks great tho;)

:yuno: Fuuuuuu is right and it looks worse in person. I need some PDR work as I inherited a few dings around the truck. Yeah the bumper needed some love and I had those pads off for way to long. That damn textured plastic sux though. Can't sand the texture away (tried that), likes to fisheye (fought with that too), but way better painted than always rubbing 303 on there as the sun just makes it disappear so fast down here.

Yessir. I feel for you guys in the winter. Some mornings I get up and wash them at 0600 just so they are ready to go for school drop offs and the rest of the day. Watching the weather of course and not picking the rainy day. lol

Stopped by the painters yesterday to see the HD hood. Worse or better, depending on how you look at it by finding the issues (good) or having to paint it for the 3rd time (bad and a waste of paint $$). He took a whole bunch of photos, but these 2 are what I have for now. We had issues/reactions on the exterior section visible on the surface of the hood after both times it was painted. The reaction happened pretty much immediately and it looked like someone has sprinkled sand/non-skid over the surface of the hood. It was very shiny, but just looked like crap.

The lead painter decided this time to do every prep step himself to ensure that this 3rd time is actually the charm. He started with 80 grit on the DA and was not making headway. He ended up using 30 grit to finally reach bare metal and get thru all the under layers of crap that were not taken off the previous time.

The prep guys had not done a good enough job during prep and left some contamination/rust in the under layers as they evidently had not taken it all off, thus allowing it to react/breathe once the top coat was laid down and the scorching sun hit it. Pinholes and any body work were visible from the surface, but too hard to take a photo of. It went all the way thru to the metal. grrrr...Always in the prep that makes the real difference.

There is a primer coat on it now and they will be filling, fairing and blocking it the end of this week and shooting another primer coat as he works his way up to the final coats. Hope to have more pictures of the process to post up soon.

Yeah no snow down here, but pop up rain showers even though this is the "dry season".

The hood will come out better this time I am confident. We've worked together on many projects over the years, boats and vehicles.

Sometimes a certain part needs a reshoot even a third time. Not bothered and they will make it right. Good work if relationship over the years.

Do you have anything on the backside of the hood to protect it from engine heat?

Yessir. I have the OEM heat pad in place under there and have since it was first painted and it is still in perfect condition.

There was a only a bit of corrosion near where the light was mounted on the drivers side of the hood.

Do you have the OEM pad from your regular hood or an OEM pad for an HD hood? I heard a regular hood pad doesnt fit well on an HD hood.

It is the OEM HD hood heat pad that came with the hood. They do not make it anymore and correct the regular hood and HD heat pads are slightly different.

My original hood is buried in the back of a shed, otherwise I would have a look to compare.
